Some weeks ago, I posted to let Mac Whitaker coach them for a week and the ship would be righted. I'll say it again. Cincinnati has a history (at least back through Dusty) of having milk toast managers. David Bell has exemplified over and over again a "Get em next time attitude." Don't think we would be seeing this if "Sweet Lou" was still in charge. Embarrassing. There is no fear of retribution - None!!! Right now they are the most unprofessional "professional" team in baseball. I feel bad for Votto who has been stuck in this frustrating situation for too many years. Recently, it has obviously made its way to the field and in the dougout. Merely going through the motions. We are a rudderless ship!!!

July 20, 20197 yr I did not see them, what were the bad plays? Iglesias started it, tried to flip the ball out of his glove for a force at 2nd on one he had to charge, if he just makes the easy fundamental play at first the inning is over with a 7-2 lead!!! Then Puig tries to throw to 3rd on a fly out that he had NO chance on and allowed the guy on first to advance to 2nd on, they just play so poor fundamentally!!

As a coach in ANY sport what you ALLOW is what you’re TEACHING!!
July 20, 20197 yr Who is the leader on this team? Votto is older and best player and should be the leader but he wants no part of it. He would never call anyone out after game. On the other hand, I don't know anyone else on this team that would either.

He just flat missed a grounder on an EASY hop that if it hadn’t hit him in the knee he wouldn’t have even touched it!!

It has been so much better under Shildt.
July 20, 20197 yr IMO, it is time to get rid of the pieces that you are not going to sign long term and hopefully you can get something of decent value in return. The first to go would be Puig, especially considering the tear that he has been on lately. Another I would seriously consider moving is Raisel Iglesias if I can get a good haul in return. There will be no takers for Scooter because he looks like a shell of what he was before the injury, perhaps you can get him to resign at a hometown discount.
July 20, 20197 yr It was a good year for the Reds. They gave us some hope for a miracle. They are more competitive than they have been the last few years. I like many of the moves made this year. Time to look at building on this year's gains for next year. They kept us interested till football got here.

I left it alone as I have grown to respect and agree with most insight you provide, but I can’t on this one. Mac wouldn’t last a week in a big league clubhouse. I know him very well, have a long time, but he wouldn’t last in todays game. The first time he pulled a guy mid-inning and berated then publicly after he had them run outside the outfield fence he would lose the clubhouse. The Sweet Lou’s, Jim Leland’s and others are managers of the past. It would NEVER fly with today’s game and egos. The days of leading with fear are in the past. Joe Giardi can’t even find a job after 2 successful stops, and it continues to point to not being a players manager, losing the clubhouse. None of this means David Bell is doing a good job. I think he’s much better than Price, but could do better on the little things, but to think you’d have drastic changes by inserting Mac or anyone like him is a huge stretch.
