Reds at Mets (4/29 - 5/2)

Barely a month into the season and the usual suspects have already made Reds threads unbearable this year. Shame we can’t have solid Reds discussions here anymore.

I think I will buy you a ticket to the Reds game when Votto is inducted into their HOF.

We get it, you hate him. We don't need reminded every thread.

I’m sure he will and he deserves it, based on what he’s done in the past, unfortunately what he’s done in the past doesn’t help THIS team and that’s what matters now, he was pretty bad last year and he’s worse this year but he’ll still be paid $25,000,000 this year (and the next 4 years), when you’re getting paid like that you need to give your team more than what he has last year and this year so far, just the facts!

That’s like George Carlin’s old skit “by the process of elimination somewhere in the world is the worst doctor”, with the hitting stats this team has put up those positions of where he is at is not very impressive, .235 BA

And everyone on here understands that. But, I don't see you blasting Suarez after every at bat for having a .221 BA. And let's be honest, he's had more than a handful of baserunning mistakes this season too. And don't tell me it's because Suarez has more RBI's, so he gets a pass. You do realize someone needs to get on in order for someone else to get an RBI, right? For years, people on here have railed against Votto batting 3rd with his OBP. "He should be batting leadoff!" So, now that they have him in the leadoff, you're wanting him to drive in runs.

Look, the Reds are in an offensive funk. Everybody gets it. It's pretty obvious. But the fact that they're 13-17 right now (after starting the season 1-8), means they've gotten outstanding pitching and some timely hitting. I would much rather be winning, or heck, even losing games 1-0 than I would be having the games be 7-5. Sure, putting up more runs would indicate the hitting is better. But, giving up 6 runs a game will take a toll on the pitching staff that, come July and August, will have dire consequences. And if you ask me what side is more than likely to improve over the season, it'll always be the hitting.

And before I get labeled as being brainwashed by the Reds, or satisfied with the status quo...I'm not. I'd love for the Reds to win every game. But, no team in modern baseball history has come close. Ever. There are going to be wins, and there are going to be losses. I try not to get too high with the wins, and try not to get too low with the losses.

I'd like for him to be hitting a little better too (I don't care about his RBIs). We all just get tired of reading it after almost every game and definitely in every series thread.

Fixed it for you. :thumb:

Reds need to get the bats going early and knock out Thor. I want 3 out of 4!

You have to think about the money differently. That 25 million dollars, he is actually getting paid for what he did before he got the big contract. That's the way the money works in baseball. The teams get to underpay player performance for 7 years. Then if the player is a stud like Votto, they overpay for the last few years of his career.

I have some time to waste, so here goes.

Votto is #3 on the Reds in batting average.

Votto is #2 in OBP.

Votto is #2 in runs scored.

Votto is #1 on the Reds in doubles.

These are compared to the worse hitting team in baseball. He should be high in all these stats vs. Reds team but being our best player, he should be compared to the NL.

Lance and WLW the other night said Votto ran the basses like a little leaguer. I guess we need call them and ask them not to spew this stuff across their airways.

They don't talk about it every single day...

And if they did, they'd lose listeners, just like we've lost posters in these threads.

Votto takes a third strike and argues with the umpire. Anybody saw that before?

Be honest guys, we see this like one a game. He thinks he should get every border line pitch. I know he have a good eye, but 50-50 pitches are called that for a reason.

I'll be honest if you'd be honest...if he swung all the time at those pitches there'd be people on here complaining about him swinging at ball 4.

If you think I talk about it everyday, then you obviously don't Reed ever Reds post. I won't talk about him today as he is not playing.

But they are strikes, that is why he argues and walks back to the dugout.
