Then he was in the top 40 of all baseball in both batting average and OPS. So hmmm that doesn't seem to be like a bad season to me. In fact I think the majority of every starting baseball player in MLB would take that type of season every year. Compare last year to all of the other Votto years and see if it was a bad year. In an interview he once said it was his worse year of his career. I don't think high on base percentage earns you 25 million a year. Just my thoughts.

Just because by Votto's standards it wasn't as good as some of his best years, doesn't mean it was a bad year at all. It seems to be more of what you wanting to believe than what really was. Just like this year Votto's slow start is similar to basically every first month or so of his career. Then he usually always has shown he will end up being one of the better hitters in baseball for the season when it is all said and done. Compare last year to all of the other Votto years and see if it was a bad year. In an interview he once said it was his worse year of his career. Last year WAS the worst year of his career. The worst year of what has been a darn good career. Still a very good year. Whether you agree on the 25 million or not is matter of opinion and you two could argue until you were blue in the face about it. You don't like Votto, we get it. Please move on haha. :jump:
May 2, 20197 yr Mahle pulled after 5 with only 84 pitches. Again, I'm going to trust the wizardry that is David Bell for a year, before I'm griping to feed him to the wolves, but he also pulled a guy after 5.2 that was at 85 pitches last night. Hope the bullpen is healthy come August!

May 2, 20197 yr What has it been like 6 years in a row where people freak out about Votto during first month of the season? I mean literally every year the stuff you are saying is the same stuff people have said for probably the last 6 years after the first month of the year. Saying he has lost it, he sucks, they just don't see him turning it around. Then guess what every single time has he turned it around, and been one of the best batters in baseball. So this isn't the first time he has started off a year cold compared to what his season average would end up being. So until we see this actually continue for a whole season, definitely way to early and way off base to act like he has lost it when it is normal for him to start off very slow. Turned it around every single season, uhh, might want to recheck last year’s stats.

May 2, 20197 yr You have to think about the money differently. That 25 million dollars, he is actually getting paid for what he did before he got the big contract. That's the way the money works in baseball. The teams get to underpay player performance for 7 years. Then if the player is a stud like Votto, they overpay for the last few years of his career. I’ll agree on that.

May 2, 20197 yr Said it earlier in the week, and I'll say it again. I'm all for automated ball-strike calls. Home plate umpire just bent the Reds over and stuck it to them after Winker's ejection.
May 2, 20197 yr Home plate umpire needs to face disciplinary actions from MLB. Inexcusable for a major league umpire to miss that many blatant ball/strike calls. Most of those called strikes weren’t even close to the zone.
