I really liked Brienne finishing Jaime's story in the book.

 

No doubt, I almost got choked up watching that actually. Pretty cool.

I could have lived with a lot of it, but banishing Jon was junk. And no one really seemed to fight it.

 

Not really sure why Jon went to the wall either. All the Unsullied jumped on a boat to Meereen, so once they pulled out of port couldn't have Jon just stayed in King's Landing or gone back to Winterfell?

This is my take on Jon being sent to the wall. Grey Worm was not going to give him up without some form of acceptable punishment. If not then there was going to be a battle until all of Dany’s forces were eliminated.

 

There is no watch currently and there might never be one. By sending him away they also eliminate anyone wanting to use his heritage for whatever reason. Tyrion knows there is no watch. Now Jon will live north of the wall and basically becomes the king beyond the wall.

Tyrion's speech absolutely convinced Jon to kill her. I think he knew its what he needed to do.

 

Why didnt other Lords step up and claim they want their independence?

 

Why was everyone okay with Bran for really no good reason?

 

Its all dumb. I hated it watching it and I hate it more now.

 

 

As to the north they are culturally very different from the rest of Westeros, and on account of the war between the First Men and the Children of The Forest. During the war the Children flooded “The neck” which leads to an easy choke point to defend the north from any invasion by the south. The defenses of Moat Cailin guard the only easy crossing of the flooded area. The only people who know how to get through the bogs and marshlands safely are the crannogmen (Howland Reed is their lord, his kids were the ones who helped Bran north of the Wall. He was also the only other person who knew Jon’s secret,) who are loyal to house Stark. After the peace between the First Men & the Children the First Men adopted the religion of the Children and kept to many of their customs. All the kingdoms south of the neck are descended from the Andal invasion and worship the 7. You know the septons (high sparrow) and septas (shame!), etc. They conquered all of the south but were stopped dead at the neck and could never make it past there. So essentially they were culturally distinct from the southern kingdoms and traditionally have been very independent. It also doesn’t help that they are used to the colder weather of the north that the southern armies would struggle and suffer through. While they could try to invade from the sea there are not many good ports to land an army at in the north and those that do exist are heavily defended. So short of dragons it would be awfully difficult to mount a campaign against the north in general.

Exactly. Jon became a wildling....most likely the new King Beyond The Wall and folks are talking about him being banished. He literally got his wish. All he needs is Ygritte.

Then that would be going back on their word and not breaking the wheel.

With Dany dead and her own forces depleted after her fights with Euron I am fairly certain that she knows she really has no ground to demand it.

Imo Dany was a good guy all of a sudden turned bad within 3 episodes. After building her up as good for 7 and a half seasons. I watched all of season 8 again last night before last nights episode. Even episodes 1 through 3 of this season, Dany was basically the same good character as the whole series. She came to Winterfell to help. Jamie in episode 2 when he arrived at Winterfell asked if Tyrion truly believe in Dany, and he was all about her and how she will be a great queen. Vary's still believed in her too. Dany was listening to people and how Tyrion was important, so she made sure was safe during the fight with the Night King. So nothing about her was even the slightest Mad Queen. Then all of a sudden after the beat the night King in episode 4. The writers decided to start having people who believed in Dany, all of a sudden act like she wasn't going to be a good queen. When literally nothing had happened yet that should have changed their mind. Tyrion goes from talking Dany up to Jamie, to all of a sudden saying he is scared of her when Sansa says it. Like literally nothing happened except the fight with the Night King, so how all of a sudden did his feelings change for her after that? Same with Vary's he thought she was the right Queen and good, to all of a sudden after he heard about Jon. He thinks she is crazy and tries to poison him, when literally once again nothing had happened that should have changed his opinion of her.

 

I felt like they rushed this season way to much and all of the build up they had for a lot things basically was mute. For me personally it now makes it hard to watch the whole series again, knowing how rushed they have it at the very end.

 

To each their own. I’ll be watching it again from the beginning soon.

Her final speech with Jon kind of solidified that it was her vision that was going to determine who/what was good which was dangerous. There are a few times she wanted fire and blood but was reasoned out of it. All of those people were gone. She wasn’t going to listen to Jon. She was just a few more conversations away from being willing to burn the North. If Tyrion hadn’t talked her out of it her relationship with Jon would of been different.

I thought the finale was just fine. Perfectly acceptable for what they had done in the preceding two seasons. The conversation between Tyrion and Jon in Tyrion's cell was pretty bad and I laughed out loud at the dragon burning the Iron Throne, but apart from that, the conclusions of the primary characters are just fine.

 

I actually really enjoyed the thought of Jon going to live North of the wall with the Free Folk, if that's in fact what's happening there. Also enjoy Sansa ruling the independent North, back to life before the Targaryens brought it under the yoke of the south 300 years prior. Arya's story is... fine. Disappointed she didn't really get to use her skills of deception that she got from the Faceless Men at any point this season. Would have been great against either Dany... or the Night's King, rather than her appearance from nowhere like she was one of Euron's ships.

Two of her three dragons were dead. Jorah is dead. Missande was murdered before her eyes. Jon had essential rejected her. She was very alone and those that helped keep some of worst tendencies at bay were gone.

 

I loved Dany. Still do. I felt that she could give in to those tendencies in the right circumstances. She did. I can accept that some feel that it doesn’t track. I haven’t read the books (going to start this week) and I might change my mind about the issue after I do.
