November 18, 200619 yr If one of the allegedly better teams in the SEC struggles at home to beat a I-AA opponent, the conference is not that good. Upper-echelon conference teams are losing or struggling to win at home against middle-of-the road teams. Florida is weak. Arkansas looks good now, but we know the truth about them (USC). The SEC goes out of its way to hide its weaknesses by dodging good OOC competition. That insular attitude is coming back to haunt, just like it did last year in the Sugar Bowl. I'll grant that "not even close to the best conference" was a bit of an overstatement on my part, but the SEC is no better than any other of the three I mentioned. To say otherwise is a joke, and clearly a view through SEC-colored lenses. Actually in this week's Sporting News they have the SEC ranked as the BEST conference. As for USC's beating of Arkansas I can turn that around and say that the team that the Trojans are playing for the PAC 10 title today--Cal got just smoked by a Tennessee team that has 3 league losses.

But they are not way ahead of the other conferences like some of the people have said before though...:thumb: Why not the ACC then? They've got five ranked teams. Looks like they're pretty good from top to bottom …
November 18, 200619 yr I thought UL-Monroe was D-1A? Maybe they are. I thought I read they were I-AA. Even still, their resume this year makes it look like they should be I-AA.

So yeah top to bottom I say the SEC probably still better than the ACC. But as I said the SEC is not that far ahead of these other conferences though like some believe...

I was poking holes in a different argument where my friend Boucher cited five ranked SEC teams as proof the conference was better than the rest. In no way shape or form do I think the ACC matches up with the SEC.

He is not doing that at all. He is just taking a play out of Gametime's playbook. He really enjoys making those statements (whether he believes them or not) so he can see how many keyboards get burned out from all of the sec fans defending the conference. November 18, 200619 yr OK, I want to apologize for this thread-jacking — it got a little out of control on my part. The computer I'm using at home is a relic and crashes when attempting to load graphics-intensive pages such as ESPN, CBSsportsline, etc. When I'm at work on Monday and have better access to research hard numbers, schedules, scores, etc., I'll start a thread on why the SEC is no better than any of the others, contrary to what the Kool-Aid drinkers say. UK fans, carry on with your loathing over this not very pretty win at home. And look on the bright side: Tennessee is very beatable, and regardless what happens next week in K-ville, you get to go bowling. :thumb:
