February 13, 20197 yr I have to think that he doesn't get it done enough in practice to only get 3 mins last night. Doesn't Cal always say how they need the practice Nick to show up in games, and how they see him do it all the time in practice?
February 13, 20197 yr You'd think with all that height and length that LSU had, you might have seen Nick Richards a little bit more. He played 3 minutes last night. Shame he isn't doing enough to see the floor more. I don't get it sometimes with Cal. He gets way too emotional and yanks guys too easily and doghouses them. Drives me nuts. Agreed. There is no excuse to only playing Richards 3 minutes. Cal keeps blabbering that they need him to reach their full potential, but he refuses to give him any chances to contribute. It's near impossible to do anything when you get yanked for every tiny mistake. Zero chance I stick around if I'm Richards. I'd probably already have bolted honestly. I agree I would like to see him play more. However, with Montgomery starting to play much better recently. Where is his minutes suppose to come from though? Obviously you want Washington on the floor as much as possible. With Montgomery playing better, he now gets the minutes when Reid is out or Washington needs a break. At this moment, with UK missing on some front court guys next year. It would be better for Richard's to stick it out and stay. Most likely he and Montgomery are the starting front court next year. Which is better for him than sitting out a whole year going somewher else.

February 13, 20197 yr Ashton Hagans has regressed majorly the last handful of games. Dude just isn't there right now. Can't lose that game. Inexcusable to get out-hustled and out-efforted in your own gym. Agreed he is starting to become very turnover prone. UK was better with Quickley at the pg spot last night. Maybe sitting him some more would allow him to relax and see the adjustments teams have made to him, and then get him fixed before the tournament starts.
February 13, 20197 yr I get what you are saying. However last night is a bad example to use to prove your point of putting him back in with 2 fouls in the 1st half. There was zero reason to put him back in during the first half. UK in the first half was playing good without him. Quickley actually looked better on defense than Hagans in this one, even before Hagans got 2 fouls. UK had a 8 point lead with Quickley playing most of first half. If UK played bad or was struggling, then I get your point. However the team was doing good without him, so for last nights game at least. There was no reason to send him back in with 2 fouls. As it turned out, Quickley played pretty well so it may wind up being a good thing if it gives him more confidence come tournament time. I was afraid this would be a trap game coming before Tennessee, but really a ranked team shouldn’t be a trap game. Not the worst thing to lose a game here and there to keep them from getting complacent. Hope this helps motivate them for Saturday.
February 13, 20197 yr Tough loss last night. I understand Keldon doesn’t want to commit a silly foul with LSU in the bonus, but his defense on that last possession was not very good, or competitive. I don’t have a problem with Tyler shot because it was early enough to where you can get a second chance shot, especially with two defender guarding him. College basketball review is terrible, and Cal is right. Goaltending at the end of games will become a reviewable play next season. Nick Richards is getting passed by EJ, not much else to say about that. Up 9 at home they have to win, but when you look at the overall picture they didn’t play well enough to win but still almost pulled one out against a top 20 team. If we’ve learned anything about the Cal tenure is these tough losses during the regular season typically turn into wins come March, especially with a team with this type of talent. Win Saturday and Tuesday night doesn’t sting as bad, and I like the matchup with Tennessee too.
February 13, 20197 yr Win Saturday and Tuesday night doesn’t sting as bad, and I like the matchup with Tennessee too. Stings worse IMO. You win last night and Saturday and they're in the driver's seat for a #1 seed. Now their ceiling is a 2 seed, if they can beat UT twice. You just can't lose games to inferior opponents on your home court. Just can't do it.
February 13, 20197 yr Baker had a wide open three and he got yanked right away when he missed. I wonder if its because he didn't follow his shot or something. I think Cal inserts Baker and watches 2 things: If he hits his first shot, and his defensive matchup. I think he missed and he felt Baker was not quick enough to stay in front of LSU's guards. :idunno:
February 13, 20197 yr Reid Travis. Dude has been a HUGE disappointment this season. On the offensive end, I agree. But he has been very good on the boards. He had 9 rebounds last night. Perhaps my most frustrating play was when he tried an outlet pass at waist level to Quickly on a Defensive Rebound right in traffic. Picked off and turned into two points by LSU.
February 13, 20197 yr Stings worse IMO. You win last night and Saturday and they're in the driver's seat for a #1 seed. Now their ceiling is a 2 seed, if they can beat UT twice. You just can't lose games to inferior opponents on your home court. Just can't do it. If they beat UT twice, they will be back in the picture for a 1 seed. If they split and do not have another regular season loss they are still looking at a 2. Have you seen the other project 2 and 3 seeds. Michigan lost last night to Penn State. Michigan State lost at home to IU last week. Keep in mind too Tennessee needs to go to LSU on the 23rd also.
February 13, 20197 yr Reid Travis. Dude has been a HUGE disappointment this season. Before last night he has had some of his best games against the ranked teams UL had played. However last night he definitely was a non factor.

You just can't lose games to inferior opponents on your home court. Just can't do it. If they beat Tennesse twice their ceiling is a 1 seed. As of right now the SEC is going to have a one seed. While UK lost last night, so did Michigan to a bad Penn State team. As it is looking the one seeds will be Duke, Gonzaga, Virginia, and probably an SEC team. Which if UK beats Tennesee twice, then UK would most likely get the nod over Tennessee. Now losing last night did hurt, because now they have to sweep Tennesee. If they win last night and split with Tennesee. They would have bad a shot still at one. That cant happen unless they sweep them now.
February 13, 20197 yr Reid Travis. Dude has been a HUGE disappointment this season. We would have had around 2 maybe 3, bad losses in November and December without Reid.
February 13, 20197 yr In other words, effectively what any coach in America would say when going into a historically great program's house. So in 2010 and 2015 if he had brought a team in, he would have said “we have our work cut out for us tonight men?” Lol He specifically pointed out those mega star teams, I think you missed that part.
February 13, 20197 yr Baker had a wide open three and he got yanked right away when he missed. I wonder if its because he didn't follow his shot or something. What is Baker exactly Brad 2.0? Does he offer anything else other than catching and shooting?
