What are your thoughts about this? Were these losses flukes or were those teams not that good?

I think a lot of us felt that Danville would get Frankfort in the rematch. Beechwood was beaten by Newport Catholic, who's been underrated by almost everyone because they took some early losses against a brutal schedule. Bardstown ... well, that was a surprise, but Bethlehem is 11-1 and had already beaten Louisville Holy Cross twice.

The way I see it...only one of the top four have been eliminated...the other three are still alive and in no particular order: Danville, Mayfield, and NCC. Until someone steps up and does it in the playoffs the Big three or Four in this case will always be Beechwood, NCC on the east and Danville and Mayfield on the western side of the bracket. Just a shame that the new 6-classification system will mess up these great playoff rivalries that these four teams have created with each other.

This is a copy of the final BGP Poll, I would have to beg to differ, the pollsters had it different. Frankfort was given way to much credit for its Danville win and a unranked team beating Bardstown is troubling. We clearly fumbled the ball on our evaluation of Beth or Bardstown or likely both. #9 and #10 also lost to unranked teams. We only have 4 teams still alive out of our top 10, granted the Cov Holy Cross loss was expected by a team we had ranked higher but the other losses we just missed the boat on. So does this mean 1A finally has some balance or did the stars just line up right this year. In the end will it still come down to a title game between 2 of the usual 4 participants? I am guessing so

My personal top four would have been Beechwood, Bardstown, Danville and NewCath ... two of them are still alive.

 

Upsets happen. Bardstown beat Bethlehem 28-0 the first time. Danville lost to Frankfort by 20, then drilled them 35-6 in the rematch.

Just goes to show you what the rankings are really good for - lining bird cages or as training pads for your new puppy.

:thumb: I agree although Bardstown losing did somewhat suprise me. Beechwood is always up there it seems but lost as someone else said to a VERY good NCC team.

I was SO looking for a Bardstown - Danville matchup....but I'll take Danville - Bethlehem.

Bardstown losing was the main shocker. NCC beating Beechwood is not an upset nor Danville beating Frankfort. When the playoffs start everyone is 0-0 and not rankings will save you.

No balance, just overrated teams. LCA and Pikeville, both overrated. Pikeville had a good summer and played well early. LCA is getting too much credit for winning that district.

With the change in the playoff format, 2 of the teams from the NKY district were going to be eliminated by now. I don't know if it is that there have been upsets as much as the NKY district had to eliminate each other as opposed to having NCC and Beechwood in the 3rd round. Either Danville or Frankfort would be eliminated as well.

 

It is just a matter that some districts are very strong (as evidenced by the number in the top 10) and others are weak and the weak ones benefited from beating up on their weak district again.

Technically LCA did not win the district. That honor goes to Raceland. LCA won the #1 seed in the district, but no trophy was given for that.

 

In most other polls that I have seen Raceland was ranked above LCA all year long, so I don't know if Raceland beating LCA was an upset of losing to an unranked team. Just an upset in the BGP poll.

Isn't that an oxymoron. If they were the top three teams they would not have been eliminated.

I will agree Danville handed it to us in the playoffs,but how do get too much credit for beating the #1 ranked team by 20,and handing them their first district loss since 1999. Coach Harp made some good adjustments for the playoffs and we didn't.
