Al Gore 2008: Looking More Likely?

Featured Replies

What I always come back to when Gore is mentioned as running for president is the fact that he could not even carry him home state of TN in the 2000 election. That should tell us something. In fact, I lived in TN during the last election and the articles and comments that were thrown about regarding Gore were not good. The people that were in his congressional district were very much against him because once he got to Washington, he never did anything for him. He did not represent them they way they thought he would.

You may be right.

However, there are quite a few people in the middle who may rethink their vote in 2000. Remember, he got a lot of votes. He can now say he was right on the war and will have a very receptive audience.

If you lean right, you had better hope Hillary gets the nomination and not Al Gore. IMO Hillary is an easy touch for the Republicans.

I'd like to know what the Clinton's did to Morris. He's on a one man crusade to get them.

Hillary kicked him to the curb....fired him because his advice was always flawed.

I guess that explains why he was only elected three times to the House and once to the Senate...

Gore didn't carry Tennessee because of the policies he supported. End of story.

I love how people say the "Liberal/left wing" candidates are just too far from the the everyday American citizen.

If that is so, why did Gore garner 2 million more votes in 2000? Kerry lost by less than 2 million in 2004 to a Republican incumbent who had a MASSIVE warchest.

I agree that the Democrats would be better suited to run a moderate candidate in 08. I don't know who it is to be honest with you. Is it John Edwards? We all know he won't get the party's support.

If a Democratic moderate will have a difficulty getting the nomination because they will struggle to raise the funds. The people in the most powerful positions on the Dem side are more liberal and will likely be fighting hard for Hilary.

I certainly don't think the liberal wing of the Democratic party is the best bet to win in 08, but it is difficult to ignore the fact that two very liberal Democratic candidates seemed to be pretty in line with HALF of the American people when you average the vote total between 00 and 04

He would have followed the Clinton philosphy on retaliation: "One cruise missle; one camel obliterated."

Fair enough assessment, but I would have to contrast that with the Bush philosophy on invading a sovereign nation that did not attack us: "A couple of trillion dollars, 20,000 wounded, and 3,000 dead; one NASTY quagmire."

Being attacked wasn't enough for Clinton to take action. Al Queda attacked us several times under Clinton's watch and he followed the "kill a camel policy'. FWIW, that didn't work either.

I will never be convienced that Iraq, under Hussein, wouldn't or didn't sponsor terrorist activity against the USA.

Back on topic. Al Gore = no more hurricanes.

Has this turn of events made Al Gore a likely frontrunner for the Democratic nomination in 08?

We can only hope, the only thing better would be if the Dems ran a Gore/ Clinton (hillary) ticket for President.

Maybe Gore / Sharpton:dancingpa

Gore / Dean:banana:

If we live right, take our vitamins and say our prayers maybe just maybe we could get one of these tickets. ;)

I hope that Gore is not the nominee, but if he is, I think he will win. He'll just have to remind everyone how much better off they would have been if he had won in 2000.

Yeah...because things are SOOOOOOOOOOO bad...i mean the market is crashing, unemployment is at a record high....i dont think things can get much worse:rolleyes:

Hillary kicked him to the curb....fired him because his advice was always flawed.
 Dick Morris was officially fired following a highly publicized toe-sucking scandal. He was not fired because of flawed advice. Clinton hired him because of the 1994 train wreck in which Democrats lost control of both the House (after 40 years of control) and the Senate. Apparently, Clinton thought the advice that James Carville, George Stephanopoulos, and Paul Begala had given him was "flawed," so he called for reenforcements.

Morris is an irritating character but the guy was one of the top political strategists in the country. Poll numbers saved Clinton's hide and Morris contributed to those high poll numbers that liberals are so fond of crowing about. Morris was a hired gun without a strong political affiliation and Clinton hired him to help salvage his presidency. George Bush will probably pursue the same "triangulation" strategy that buoyed Clinton's approval rating during the period of 1994 to 1996.

Undoubtedly, Hillary welcome Morris' ouster because he convinced Bill that he would have to work with moderate Republicans to win a second term. That meant an end to those wildly popular liberal initiatives like Hillary-care and gays in the military.

All that rich folks' stuff takes a back seat when American boys and girls are dying daily for a personal war with no end in sight. Did I hear NPR right? 18 today? I thought the mission was accomplished 2-3 years ago?

But keep telling me how great things are for people who make $300K a year. The real crime is how the GOP has snowed most of the country into thinking they're rich, and subsequently voting against their pocketbooks. At least the American public is finally waking up, despite taking a sledgehammer to the head for six years.

That's about as wrong a statement as I've ever read on here.

Things are good for me and I don't make close to $300k a year. That is typicall Democratic speak. Every tax bracket was reduced and income threshholds were increased. Capital gains taxes and the dividend tax rate was reduced for everyone. The death tax was decreased and was to eventually be eliminated. Not everyone who inherents money has a high income. 401k contribution limits were increased and a catchup provision for the older employee was established. I believe you can contribute to a 401k regardless of income. This year the ROTH 401k is available.

Speaking of deaths, how many innocent babies were murdered yesterday? More than 18 I would think. It cracks me up how many of the same people who complain about the lives lost in Iraq don't seem to care about the mass murder that takes place on a daily basis in this country. I believe the total is now well over 2,000,000. Why doesn't the national media report the number of abortions each day?

I will be the first to tell you that I, as a Republican, am disappointed in the lack of change that took place under the lead of the GOP. I don't mind the change, who knows it might be a good thing. But this the crap about the tax cuts being for the rich is wrong. It stands to reason that the more you make the better more the cuts will help you but it benefits everyone.

Jim, its not only "rich" that are doing OK. The economy doing well also means interest rates are at a point where people can buy their first home or buy "more" home than they otherwise could. The vast majority of people in the country benefit during a good or strong economy. Its not one-sided.

I don't know. I consider myself to be anti-abortion, but it's not really that big an issue with me. I tend to concern myself with the people that are already here. Plus, I think the world is very overpopulated.

And you aren't really trying to tell me there are 2 million abortions performed every day, are you? Because I'd like to see a link on that from somewhere other than an anti-abortion advocacy group.

But shift the argument away from your guy's massive failure in Iraq, if it helps.

The tax cuts were made for the rich. They benefit the most from it, and to argue otherwise would be silly. The fact that middle-class folks benefit is just a fortunate unintended consequence. And I have yet to see any benefit from it personally. If anything, I get less of a tax refund than I got 10 years ago.
