Al Gore 2008: Looking More Likely?

Featured Replies

You know what's hilarious? The fact that you can find any Dem candidate laughable, yet you can't come up with a decent GOP candidate.

No Jim, its anything but hilarious. The fact that I can't think of any possible candidate from either party that I'd be willing to back is very, very sad.

Not to change your post but I would add, a Democrat or Republican that is a good candidate but not willing to put themselves and their family through the meat grinder of a Presidential campaign.

I've saved my paychecks. I'm a pack rat.

Because of garbage career setbacks, I'm making the same as I did in 1998. And I get less take-home pay.

Again, the magical tax cuts don't work for everyone.

Things other than taxes can reduce your take home. Things such as the increase in health insurance. Not saying thats the case but is your tax liability higher?

Since they benefit far more from this system than I, you bet. It's not like any of them are getting put out on the street because of their tax burden, so forgive me if don't cry too many tears for the "struggles" of the wealthy.

They benefit from a system that has allowed their talent and ambition to gain them their wealth. That doesn't mean that they should pay any larger percentage of the tax burden than anyone else. It is ridiculous to think that people who have sucess should be punished for it. Flat tax is fair tax, and this is coming from a man that is anything but rich.

I believe we should have a system that rewards in the FULLEST MANNER possible a person donating their wealth/income to programs that are designed to help those that are less unfortunate. Don't take that to mean we tax them and let the government decide how to spend it.

But tax breaks or whatever you want to call it that includes giving/encouraging them to donate to homeless shelters, food banks, and the like.

We should have a system that encourages, supports and rewards people in helping other people.

Agreed, but donation is personal choice.

Absolutely it is a personal choice but I feel our tax/government system should be setup to reward and encourage that personal choice.

We totally agree.:thumb:

I am a bit surprised at how quickly Al Gore is being written off especially based off of the most recent election and how the GOP was taken to the woodshed. Add in that Gore did not exactly get whipped in the 2000 election plus the GOP's struggles and it seems Gore would be in a favorable position.

I realize the hard core folks would never consider him. However, he's going to appeal to a lot of folks in the middle who are becoming more discouraged each and every day with the current Iraq situation. He's going to say loudly and clearly that he was against the war from the beginning and some are going to give him the nod for that reason alone. Laugh at him personally and some of his whacky quotes and ideas but writing him off as "no problem" for the GOP would be a mistake IMO.
