I think safety is a pretty good articulable reason. If there is lightning there should be a place for visiting teams to go. Outside of that, some schools just aren't going to build/add on to their existing facilities to accommodate teams for a couple times a season. I can think of a school in NKY right now that the home and visiting locker rooms are a decent walk uphill to get too. Most visiting teams choose to stay down on the field even in the rain.

Halftime is 15:00 minutes. If the “locker room” is a ten minute walk then it is not adequate. If rest room facilities are not provided that is not adequate. If the visiting team has to take halftime in the middle of the field that is not adequate.

So it was an exaggeration to say it was a 10 minute walk then. It was just further than you were happy with.

That’s not uncommon either for teams to come out with less time on the clock.

It's a couple hundred yards from the gate to the locker rooms. My son played there a couple of times, it didn't seem to be an issue.

IMO, the state isn't all that interested in locker room accommodations. In the 2016 State Championship, Beechwood used batting cages without any running water or bathrooms as their locker rooms. Kids were going to the restroom in bushes around the exterior of the building.

 

Both teams (Hazard had to get dressed in the basketball arena) had to walk a good distance from “locker rooms”.

Just have no respect for a program that provides facilities for the home team and little or no facilities for the visiting team. If both have reasonably equal facilities play on. If not, the KHSAA should assure the visiting teams of reasonabe parity (might mean change of venu).

Sometimes teams just plan on not having a locker room at all during an away game - regular season or playoffs.

 

Some places just do not have the facilities to handle an 80-100 player visiting team. I have seen a team have to wait out a lightning storm in baseball dug outs for over an hour and sometimes just re-board the buses during bad weather.

 

Not great, but comes with the territory in this sport.

I really can't believe this discussion has gone on this long. So the teams had to walk across the parking lot to get to their locker rooms? Has anyone complained about this before? How many years have the locker rooms been like this? Seems like a non-issue to me.

I think my biggest "gripe" with Taylor County was, to me at least, was I didn't think their stadium/facilities was really prepared to host a sold out game. However, the TC fans were awesome and the few I talked to were telling me it had been a good while since they've been this good. Glad to see them do well. Back to the main point, I did notice a few other FS fans talking about how Franklin stayed on the field during Half, but I didn't think it was that huge of a deal.

Wow. Perhaps one of the LEAST legitimate concerns I've heard recently. Some school districts have the ability to fund upgraded athletics facilities and some really don't. So, that should prevent them from the opportunity to host a playoff? Some make the playoffs regularly and know how to handle the crowds, etc. and some make it rarely and don't have that expertise, so they shouldn't be allowed to learn from experience. Is this really what we've come to? Sorry but I have no sympathy for this complaint.

KHSAA needs to take a page out of what Ohio does come the later rounds of the play-offs and find a neutral site with the best facility (i.e. field turf). I'm not really that concerned about the locker room situation, but I am concerned about field conditions because it effects the level of play. I would think come playoff time folks want to see great football. I'm sorry, but watching two teams play in slop because all three levels of football, boys soccer and girls soccer chewed all the grass up weeks ago is not my idea of great football.

Adequate is such a relative term. I'm sure there are plenty of places where the visiting locker rooms are much better than the visiting teams locker room at their home field. But, if you don't have an accessible bathroom and water, then that's an issue. And "close" isn't something I really understand. Your close and my close are probably different distances, and that's fine.

 

Although, I did hear of a team one time whose water source was the baseball locker room showers, so they filled up their coolers from the shower head. And that just seemed really gross to me. I think those kind of things are the biggest issue.
