Full service gas station

Featured Replies

The Marathon station at Hands Pike and 17 has a guy at the pumps to fill your tank up. They have a sign in the lot that says full service no extra charge. Being older, I had him fill my tank and paid with a credit card and didnt give him a tip. My 20 something son said I am supposed to tip him for filling my tank. In the olden days, we never tipped for full service. Has this changed?

I'll be honest, I wouldn't have known either way. That being said, I would have felt obligated to tip him just to remove any guilt from my mind.

I would not have tipped.

Full service means full service, and you never tipped before at them, so why start now?

I wouldn't have tipped him.

Tipping is out of control.

I would have flipped him 15-20% like restaurants.

I consider myself a generous tipper. But I constantly find myself wondering if I should have tipped someone. Like I get free car washes for a year from the dealership where I bought my car. There isn’t any manual labor to it, they just have an automatic car wash they run it through. But yet I see other people tip the guy when they bring the car back to them. I never tip the guy but leave feeling guilty every time that I don’t. I don’t ever have cash anyways, but I still feel bad. I tip at restaurants, barbershop, and Uber/Lyft. That’s basically it.

When I lived in Philly, I often travelled to New Jersey, where you cannot pump your own gas. Attendants aren’t tipped there.

Most gas stations in Canada, especially the smaller cities, are full-service and don't expect tips

I would have flipped him 15-20% like restaurants.

You'd pay $3.60 per gallon for $3.00 gasoline?

There is one station here that pumps the gas for you and they are normally .03 cents higher than the other stations nearby.
