The same way you tell them not to drink while you or their coach may have a few drinks...IMO.

I think that is the reason why kids don't listen to that refrain. A person comes off as hypocritical to the kids so they pay little to no attention to them.

Kids will CONTINUALLY model your actions rather than your words whether you are a coach, teacher or parent.

To paraphrase the late, great, Redd Foxx....."if you think you are to good to cuss, let me take you to the parking lot and slam my car door on your finger, then see what you say"..........

As a player it did not bother me.

As a coach, I do not use them.

That would be "I am so stupid for going with you to the parking lot and letting you slam my finger in your car door.":D

I completely and totally disagree. My parents never drank a drop or had alcohol in the house and I've been known to partake. My mom cussed like a sailor and until I got older, I knew better. It's how well you are disciplined...again, IMO.

I believe you are the exception to the rule. I have had student after student, both good and bad, that are just like their parents.

If anyone has ever played sports on the collegiate level its a thousand times worse. Every other word might be a curse word depending on where your at.

Sticky, I have to agree with LBBC, you are IMO the exception. Studies would prove it true. I just don't feel that you need to use profane language to get your point across. I once was a true vulgarian, very fluent in the four letter art of expression, I since have grown up in many ways and realize I did nothing but show my ignorance with that language. Does that mean I am opposed to a severe tongue lashing,,,no! But, it can be done w/o profanity!

I was more worried about getting in trouble if I was caught. To me, that's the difference between my friends and a lot of kids these days. They don't care about the consequences...at least as much as I did...

Definitely. My former players will tell you that I absolutely ripped them at times that I felt it was necessary but no cuss word came out.

AMEN!!!!

And to add to that I never recall ONCE being scared about what was going to happen to me at school. Never once. I was too scared on what my father had planned for me and that thought dominated my mind.

Saying I repeat to my students all the time.

You choose your actions but you do not get to choose your consequences. In this classroom, that is my choice.

Cursing in front of kids, and cursing at kids are totally different.

Cursing in front of kids is OK, as long as it is infrequent.

Cursing at kids is totally inappropriate and I see no need for it at all.

I agree with this. Cursing to help emphasize a point is one thing. Cursing at a kid because he screwed up is totally inappropriate.

What about telling someone to "Shut UP":D
