Good for you. I'd rather see 4 teams that are very evenly matched have a playoff for the district title. And do so in front of packed houses. I've called more than a few of the 1st round games you get excited about, and the visiting crowd was all but absent...

I imagine the gate will be at an all-time low at Corbin Friday for a playoff game.

Look for somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 people coming from Garrard! Truthfully though, the crowd would have been about the same if the Golden Lions had been going to Louisville Western. You're big problem at Corbin will be a small second round gate, which certainly wouldn't be the case in the old system.

That's fine, and good for you, too. I can see why some in northern Kentucky 4A like the new format, given the schools' proximity to each other and the likelihood that they may have a better chance to advance in the playoffs, given their lack of success against the other district over the years.

Under the old format, we could easily have had those "evenly matched" remaches next week, if both teams could post wins in the first round.

If T was still there in round 3 it wouldn't matter either way, right? The Region Champ would be the same both ways. And since I don't have ties to any 4A school, I'm speaking as only a fan of area teams in general. I just get the feeling some hate change way too much...

I think a lot of us embrace change when we see it's needed. The recent changes I've seen aren't good ones, and I don't think I'm alone in that assessment.

NKY 4A is a one point Ryle loss from winning 6 of the 8 1st round games over the last two years. Getting teams to the 3rd and 4th round has been a fact in 04 and 05. So it would seem that outside of T, they were doing just fine in the old format. And having been to a bunch of those 1st and 2nd round games, it was clear the Louisville teams don't travel well. It's a winning situation for all of NKY IMO...

Honestly I miss seeing how districts matched up with each other.

On the other hand it is better for the players/students/fans to be able to have a playoff game closer.

I really don't think I'm going to like it next year when everybody makes the playoffs for some reason.

My biggest gripe is this:

Russell.... as we have all debated on here has the unfortunate benefit of being in a very, very weak district. Russell should cakewalk to the state quarter's.

Corbin.... has a 4 team district, that in my opinion, collectively is worse than the top 4 teams in Russell's district... Corbin is curently 5-5 on the season and quite possibly the weakest 1 seed in the state in 2A...possibly any class.

Corbin plays their weak district and pretty much has a cakewalk to the Quarterfinals before making the pilgrimage to Russell.

Now you have Russell, who has not truly played a solid team since about Week 3 against Ashland forced to host 7-5 Corbin for the right to play in the state semi's.

Meanwhile, in Region 4, if seeding holds true... Belfry will have to beat a #5 or #6 ranked Sheldon Clark in the 2nd round, then a #3 or #4 Middlesboro, just to have the right to play #2 Russell...where if they can continue their 2A gauntlet they will more than likely have #1 Mercer awaiting.

Is this fair for Russell, for Belfry, or any other Region 4 team who will have to defeat two ranked ranked teams just to advance to Russell?

How about Manual or PRP who would have to beat, St.X, Male, then Trinity just to get to the semis.

How many times have you watched Corbin play this year? Corbin has struggled at times this year, some of it can be attributed to only starting 3 seniors and some of it to just not playing very consistent. But in their defense their losses have come to Rockcastle(by 2 points) & Bell Co(3 points), two teams that have been ranked in the 3A top 10 all year. They have also lost to 2 4A teams early in the season that they should have beaten, but obviously did not and to #3 ranked M'boro. Their only quality win came over a class A #1 seed LCA, who appeared to be overmatched on that particular night, but have probably improved as has Corbin.

If Corbin is fortunate enough to get the opportunity to play Russell, they will show up and will make a game out of it.

I watched Corbin vs. Rock... ;)

The bottom line is exactly what you said.. on the year Corbin has lost 5 times and of their 5 wins only one has came against a respectable opponent... I just feel that if you take District 8 for example... I feel Belfry and SC definately would beat Corbin and Pburg and the Hounds are very comparable.

Corbin gets a free pass to the 3rd round whereas one of those 3 teams just mentioned goes home after round 1!

I hope they do give Russell a game..the Devils need one. It's just of the 4 2A games going on that night, more than likely the Corbin vs. Russell will easily be the most outmatched on paper.

We can pick apart the new format, but the bottom line is, it's never the same every year. Some districts are stronger in some years and weaker than others. Class 2A Region 1, District 2 (OCath, Glasgow, Monroe) has been among the strongest in 2A in recent years but is waaaay down this year. District 1 (Fort Campbell, Caldwell) hasn't fared well against them in recent years but would have had a shot at a sweep this year.

Class A, District 2 is normally strong but is slightly down this year.

The strength arguement for a certain district isn't one you can make every single year.

Welcome to the minority party ...

Not necessarily. Those that live in the past, oh yeah, I guess they are the majority.
