Need to contact the Military: Shotguns > Semi-Automatic rifles

 

Military uses both, shotguns are great at short distance...but are useless at much distance. Rifles are better all-round, but at close range shotguns are much more deadly.

Just saying- most guns used in intentional premeditated shootings don't belong to the user. At least not on paper. Too many guns available without buying new for background checks and anything else to help. It's the person not the weapon. If a person can't get a gun, they will use whatever they can if they are hell bent on killing someone.

It seems you're automatically assuming someone who asks those questions is calling for a ban. I think most are asking them because they're trying to gain an understanding of why it's necessary.

 

After the discussions I've had with people I know that own those weapons, I still don't think they're necessary, but I also don't think they should be banned.

 

No, I'm able to make that claim based on conversations and debates with them. They don't think anyone should be able to own them, mostly because they're uninformed.

You completely jumped to a conclusion. Not even close to what I said. We were talking about specific guns. Meaning that those that I've talked with and most I've debated with on those weapons have made it clear no one should own those weapons.

I seem to recall an early compromise push to ban bump stocks after Vegas. That would have cut down on some of the numbers that night. What happened to that push?

 

I don't know if it would have cut down on the numbers. You don't need a bump stock to bump shoot. A little practice without one and you can do the same thing.

This last kid used everything but the kitchen sink and killed 10. A terrible number, but let’s not pretend the death count wouldn’t have been higher if he had better weapons.

UKMF hit the nail on the head. Many are so quick to yell "They want bans!" when in reality folks only want to have a discussion. Hard to listen with fingers in your ears.

Same here. And if my kid used my gun(s) to shoot up a school then I deserve whatever penalties lie ahead. I should have been smarter and more responsible with my weapons. Had I been smarter and more responsible then my kid wouldn’t have used my guns to commit mass murder.

 

My kids have never taken my alcohol. I know they wouldn’t be able to just take my guns either.

Nope. My beer and liquor stayed in the same place everyday out in the open. I counted my beers everyday and my count was never off. Every beer was accounted for at all times. The way my system worked, when I got down to 4-6 beers I bought more. The liquor we buy stays unopened because we don’t drink liquor. They are souvenirs. Now, had my alcohol came up missing just one Time or had my kids shown that they can’t be trusted with alcohol then I guarantee that my system would have changed. It’s not hard to be a responsible parent.

 

 

Have you seen where the shooter’s father said his son is the victim? That’s exhibit A of the type of enabling behavior from a parent that allowed this to happen.

IMO, no one does need an AR-15. You know what else no one needs? Cigarettes, fast food, alcohol, etc.....Doesn't mean a person thinks they should be banned.

Would be nice, but since guns aren't the cause, only the tool, I wouldn't expect it.

I've given some ideas. Did you not see them?

In order to purchase a gun there has to be a universal background check into criminal history.

 

In order to purchase a gun there must be a clean mental health evaluation in a certain timeframe before the purchase.

 

Some version of PP92s idea where the legal gun owner is held responsible when their gun is used in a crime would go a long way to curtailing the access to these weapons by the nutjobs.

There are background checks now. Not sure what you mean by universal?
