The unwritten rules of baseball have been amended to help slow down offenses. Every umpire on the field saw the spot, but more importantly, they've seen Rogers tug at his cap all year long and have done absolutely nothing...

 

Fact is, MLB wants to help pitchers any way they can: it speeds up games and dampers the offenses that have made a mockery of the record books.

 

This is not cheating. It's more like.....stealing signs. The other team has every opportunity to steal just as many. If they don't, well.....

I like to look at it as a "bending of the rules" sort of thing. That's baseball, folks. That's why baseball is the most interesting sport that we play.

 

Hitters are required to make an attempt to get out of the way of a pitched ball. Do they? Are they cheaters if they don't?

 

People need to lighten up. Kenny Rogers is a jerk, but hitters have had things go their way too long. More power to him.

There had to be more to his ability than just pine tar. And you know the powers-that-be have looked at the tapes from his postseason starts against New York and Oakland. The substance was gone after the first inning and he pitched an outstanding game.

To answer this question, Kenny had surgery to remove part of a rib that had been giving him trouble. This was done in 2001, I believe. In 2004, then with Texas, he was 12-2 before the All Star break that year. Some have said that after this surgery that it helped him more with his fastball. That and pinetar have done wonders for Mr. Rogers.

I didn't mention steroids, but since you did, I think it's universally agreed upon that performance enhancing drugs benefit hitters more than pitchers. I haven't seen any major pitching records broken lately, have you?

 

Anyway, I was talking about the postage stamp-sized strike zone, the lowering of the mound, etc.

 

Also, a buddy of mine played minor league baseball for seven years for five different teams, and, according to him, pitchers using pine tar during cold weather was a fairly common practice everywhere he went. I really think it's the same in the big leagues, as well.

Some former baseball guy said today that it was definitely pine tar. He said that there was other stuff that pitchers could use, like lotions, but they didn't work very well in cold weather. So I interpreted that as most pitchers cheat whenever possible, so I'm not going to comdem Rogers so quickly.

He also said pine tar was perfect in cold temps, and the pitcher could grip the ball tighter and work his best pitches a lot better. I guess Rogers was just being status quo.

 

So if every hitter in baseball did steriods then it would be ok?

 

Cheating is cheating. I don't care how many innings he pitched without it. Should be no different then if some walked to the plate with an aluminum bat wrapped in wood grain tape.
