You would think that if your a major leauge pitcher one thing you would always be cautious about is your pitching hand. That being said I think if a Major Leauge pitcher had a ''big clump of dirt'' on his hand he would want to get that taken care of. I mean it's a pretty big game he's pitching in.... I don't like Rogers anyways.

I really don't see any reason for Kenny Rogers to be cheating.

 

 

He's old, isn't very good, and if he throws spit balls he wins. That's a pretty good reason to cheat.

I've been thinking spit ball or scuffs for his last few games. When the spot came up I of course realized I had been right all along. He should have been tossed.

This is exactly what it was in my opinion and the location of the substance, was more a giveaway than anything.

 

Pinetar on the throwing thumb palm, does several things. It provides a little movement on an overhand or 3/4 release curveball, as if release properly the ball will have to be thrown over the left pointer finger, after it has came in contact with the sticky substance. This will cause the ball, to break sharper and late.

 

The other thing pinetar does, in cold weather the fingertips aren't nearly as flexible and therefore, the grip is often a little more tighter which takes of mph's....so it helps create a better feel for the seams when cold.

:thumb: Another good point. I can promise that a pitcher know what is or isn't on his hands at all times.

If it had been determined 100% it was pine tar, he would have been tossed.

If he were cheating, I think he would have made a little more effort to hide the "substance" rather than just having it on his hand. Much ado about nothing...

I don't think a request was ever made, for the Umpires to inspect the hand but rather, it appeared as though someone within the Cardinals clubhouse, heard the TV commentary and pointed it out to Larussa.

 

In between innings, you can see Inge talking with Rogers and he walked down the clubhouse, with a cup in hand....who knows for what reason.

 

I believe I saw the same thing, on his hand during the Yankees game. Perhaps the news reporters, will think to go back and look at some previous tape and see if it was there. Most hide under the bill of their cap or on the back of the cap.

John Kruk said it best on Sportscenter last night. In the majors, if a pitcher has so much as a pebble on their hand, they go watch it off so their hand is clean and they can pitch better. If it was a clump of dirt as Rogers claims it was then he would have cleaned it off. It doesn't look anything like dirt. The three pictures they showed from the other postseason games solidifies it because it is in the exact same place, exact same size and exact same looking stuff. Cheater.

Well, he's a dirty guy, maybe it was snot, it was cold, nose running. You've seen grade school kids with the old slug trail down the jacket sleeve. He probably wipes his nose in the same manner and that snot patch got a bit untidy!

I agree and I think that Larussa could had went out and ask the umpires to take a look at his hand (and cap, something was also on it). If for no other reason to get in Rodgers head and stir things up. I know that he and Leyland are close friends but I just can't imagine or believe that Larussa would let that opportunity slip by.
