I use Uber a lot and my gut feeling continues to be the drivers are underpaid.

 

I also feel like it is a sliding scale where the part timers with nice cars are generally positive about Uber as an employer and the full timers trying to get by are struggling with check engine lights, cracked windshields, and the general appearance of cars not up to "standard."

If someone thinks they are that underpaid, don't drive. :idunno:

I uber'd for the first time ever in Cincy recently, usually only use it when traveling for work, and the guy was fantastic. Recently caught up in a down-sizing, very sharp, intelligent, and great attitude.

That is how I have been from the start. Uber/Lyft were not created to support career goals. It was created as a side hussle.

I uber'd for the first time ever in Cincy recently, usually only use it when traveling for work, and the guy was fantastic. Recently caught up in a down-sizing, very sharp, intelligent, and great attitude.

I have often thought that if someone can "walk the walk" and they need work they should make an investment, drive for Uber Black, and approach every customer like it is their next employer stepping into the vehicle.

1000% to many drivers want it to be a career but don't really treat it as such. They look at it as easy way to make money. If you think it is easy you probably aren't doing it right and getting paid the way you should.

 

With all that said I have had plenty of great drivers and I use Uber/Lyft 4 or 5 times a week.

That is the bottom line for me too, the experience is mostly great.

I had a flat tire yesterday and had to put my bird down immediately and I ended up using Uber.

 

My Uber driver was from Lexington (I live in Florence everyone) and he told me with UK out of school you can't make any money there. He told me without me asking him that he can make $400 to $500 a night in this area. I didn't ask for specifics but he was driving a nice vehicle, his customer service and demeanor were great, and he didn't give me any reason not to believe him. He was also impressed that I had some knowledge of GRC, thanks @gold sunrise

Right, so my immediate (yet private) thought was this guy is full of it. Only in no way did he seem full of anything and I certainly didn't tip my hand because I wanted this cat to chat.

 

For argument's sake let's say it is half of that. If so, Uber can work for the right person, with the right attitude, with the right car, with the right work ethic, and on and on. He seemed like that guy to me all the way down to his excellent interpersonal communication skills.
