I thought they played hard; especially without point guard/leading rebounder Lofton. Perkins had 12 rebounds and 6 blocks. Game could have gone either way, but as I often say - the better tean generally wins.

 

That was probably the best defensive game that I have seen Perkins play this season

We too picked up on the two fouls to give, sitting back and awaiting the bullet.

Stupid turnovers and bad decisions usually aren’t hallmarks of outplaying a team :lol2: No sense giving the winning team any credit.

How do you let the final play of the game play out against a 2-3 zone? Uncontested 15 ft shot with minimal ball movement to win the game. From listening to the game online and watching highlights through Twitter, it seemed as if Scott knew to draw up a 2-3 play to win it. With 2 to give, why stick with it? At least call a time out (not sure if they had any left) to switch it up and talk about the situation. Disappointing way for the Royals to end a roller coaster season.

My post was made somewhat in jest. Although it is one of my pet peeves when the losing team says they “outplayed” the winners. When you are making mistakes and turning the ball over, you’re not playing well. And usually the other team deserves some credit for causing some of those mistakes.

 

As far as the final shot...they had a plan, and executed it. That’s how you win games. I’ve seen plenty of 15 footers get missed that could have won the game. And not fouling when you had fouls to give in that situation, is inexcusable and I’d be upset about that as well.

 

Either way I’ll take getting “outplayed” and winning over the opposite situation.

Hindsight 20/20 at best here:

 

I always had a coaching philosophy with the game tied late, as it was tonight, that I always wanted be in a position to win or go overtime, not lose or go overtime.

 

With two fouls to give, you go for the steal - run-jump whatever. If they call the foul no harm done and the offensive team has to complete an inbounds play.

 

If unsuccessful you do it again, limiting the time to score the game-winner.

 

If you are really gutsy and have about 10 seconds, you go for the steal again, and if you commit the foul you send the offensive team to the free-throw line to shoot the one-bonus. If they hit one or two you still should have time to go down and have a chance to win the game.

 

Strictly hypothical - Buddy knows his team best, and elected to try to keep the Eagles on the perimeter, hoping for a miss/rebound, steal or turnover.

You can show zone and call timeout before the ball is put in play... then reevaluate how you may please.

I was in the stands yelling to foul when Scott was standing out there killing the clock at the end of the game. Go for the steal and if you foul...no big deal and you make them inbound again.

 

Shouldn't it be the responsibility of at least one of the Asst Coaches to make sure Biggs was aware of the foul situation? BTW...Pendleton had 2 fouls to give as well at the end of their game when they let Johnson drive for the winning bucket.
