I don't want to live in a world where Corporations decide what we can and can't do...

Apples and Oranges.

This is about Dick's deciding what age is appropriate for a certain product above and beyond what the law says, that is age based discrimination.

I thought that this discussion was about Dick's stopping the sale of Assault-Style Weapons...didn't realize that you were specifically talking about age restrictions.

If it became the standard trend with weapon enthusiasts to stockpile pipe bombs (because of their 2nd Amendment right to bear arms), should Dick's be forced to carry them in their inventory?

Again, this has nothing to do with Dick's being forced to carry anything, this is about age based discrimination.

When I first read the title to this thread, I thought it was talking about Amazon trying to take over the USA.

Corporations are about making money for their shareholders------nothing more, nothing less. Very few corporations are humanitarian unless being so is good for business. Dick's decision not to sell those types of guns has been vetted by its board of directors, and they have decided, for whatever reason, it will be good for business.

Again this thread is about age discrimination, not what Dick's has in their inventory or doesn't have in their inventory.

That's cool, but you didn't establish those parameters when you began the thread, and while age restriction is definitely apart the news with Dick's today the headline was foremost about them stopping the sale of Assault-Style Weapons, so I simply assumed that that was what you were referring to.

Right, you assumed wrong.

Right, you assumed wrong.

Admittedly I did, but how was I to know otherwise. :idunno:

I agree with you, that is my issue as well. If they dont want to sell a particular type of inventory, thats fine, who they sell it too, is an issue, specifically when its pretty clear we have to sell/make cakes for everyone.

Agree.

This should be a HUGE issue for the LGBT Community. They should be protesting in force against Dick's.

I have no problem with Dick's deciding whether or not to sell a particular model gun. For that matter it wouldn't bother me if they decided to get out of selling guns altogether.

The age thing is what I have issue with. I really doesn't affect me, I've never bought a gun and don't have any plans to at this time. But say Walmart did this with alcohol. If I'm 23 and have proper ID and walk into Walmart to buy a case of beer and they tell me that they don't sell beer to anyone under 28, I'm going to cause a ruckus.

I edited my original post to make it clear, sorry about that everyone.

I personally believe that legal gun ownership age, the age that its legal to buy alcohol and the age that it's legal to drive a car should be tied to the age that it's legal to vote. I've seen a but of a push that voting age should be 16, if so then legal voters should be able to do all of the age restricted things I listed.

As to the topic of the thread. If Dick's chooses sell guns then they should do it within the current legal parameters. If they don't want to sell guns to people under 21 they should stop selling guns all together.

Luckily people have more options than Dicks. Unfortunately, corporations are picking sides. Not a good business move but it’s their business.

Me either but that is exactly what Dick's is doing, they are making a financial decision.

They aren't determining the law. You can go somewhere else to buy your weapon.

It used to be that a minor couldn't buy spray paint at Wal-Mart. I don't know if that is still true.

Walmart will make this move soon.

This should be a boom for the private owned gun store, but with great power comes great responsibility.

FWIW, didn’t we ban sudafed for certain age groups.
