9th Region Tournament Field

Featured Replies

Does anyone have an actual bracket? I know the semi final games are on Saturday beginning at 7 & 8:30, but which teams play at which time? If CCH & Cooper both advance, will they be the 7 or 830 game on Saturday?

If you were to seed the district winners based on regular season record, there could be more incentive to play weaker schedules. Also, then you have to keep the district runner ups out of the same side of the bracket (as usual). There is no ranking system for sos, rpi, or this new quad system that’s out (bs, lol).

Just for kicks I seeded the 8 teams in the 9th Region Tournament as they would be merely on Win/Loss records alone, but didn't take into consideration strength-in-schedule, or any head-to-head results.

Considering that I'm pretty much a traditionalist regarding the setup of post season play for the districts, regionals, and state, I'm completely fine with things remaining the way they've been for many many years.

1-CovCath

8-Ryle

4-NewCath

5-Dixie

3-Newport

6-Holy Cross

2-Cooper

7-St. Henry

This is how the 9th Region bracket really is....

3-Newport

6-Holy Cross

5-Dixie

8-Ryle

2-Cooper

4-NewCath

7-St. Henry

I don’t recall a year where two teams are such prohibitive favorites, but that is what the tourney is for.

If they are the 2 prohibitive favorites, they will still play each other with a chance to advance to state. It will just be one game later, in which they’ll be favored over the opponent.

Any love for Ryle in this first round matchup?

Can they beat dixie? Will they?

Yes they can

Don’t sleep on Newport. Newport can beat anyone but they can beat themselves also. If anyone else out of the top makes it to final it will be 50 point beat down.

Newport has zero shot of beating Cooper or Cov Cath....it makes no sense why they don't just reseed each region it only benefits the bad teams and hurts the top teams. In this region it won't matter because only 2 teams have a shot so it doesn't matter when they play but still would be more enjoyable to see them in the finals.

Welcome to BGP @BigT44 ...thanks for contributing, and looking forward to more of your future input.

Been noticing a lot of new blood posting lately, and I say the more the merrier. Always good to hear some fresh voices and perspectives, and the chance to make new online friends. :thumb:

Been to most Newport games this year & a good sampling of CCH games; would love to see them on Monday. One game at a time though. McKell & CJ on floor together would be a treat, no matter what the outcome.

Defense wins championships, CCH and Cooper are unmatched in their defensive abilities by others within the Region. Good luck to anyone who has to match up with either of them. As to their playing one another, it is a fans pure joy. Putting the cart before the horse but you had better keep Saturday night open if you love the game.

You just refuse to pick Newport, huh? Your last few predictions haven’t been so hot when they’re involved.

Sounds like he knew what he was talking about this time.

Newport is 24-6 on the season. If that isn’t consistent, I don’t know what is. I guess if they were 24-5 like Cooper, they would be the model of consistency. I’m not putting Newport on the same level as Cooper or CovCath at this point, but they have been the 3rd best team in the 9th Region All season.

What is consistent is your clear bias against Newport. Which is fine, your merely a fan of another team and I’m cool with that.

What has been really inconsistent have been your rankings and your picks of winners and losers. At one point you had Beechwood, NCC, and Boone at number 3, even though Newport was 4-1 against those 3 teams, and had to lose on a buzzer beater to lose to Beechwood, on a night when Makhi McGuire, one of the regions best shooters, didn’t play.

You also picked NewCath to win the district all year. They lost. You picked Bellevue to beat Newport. They lost. You picked NewCath to beat Newport in regular season. They lost.

You did pick the Cooper game correctly, but so did most of BGP nation. Not a tough one to pick, especially at Cooper, where they haven’t really lost in a couple years.

I’m fine that as a fan you have a bias towards one team, but to have an odd dislike for another is baffling.

Always sad when people choose to root against others more than they just root for their own teams.

As for bulletin board material, Holy Cross is tough minded. Good, tough kids, with a good coach, and they won’t need bulletin board material. Same for Newport. At the end of the day, I think both sides will be ready to go because it’s win or go home. You’ll see the best of each of the 8 teams in the region.

I am not bias against Newport just don't know what team will show up. I guess tonight proved to everyone that you don't know which team will show up. When you play against a team that is pretty well coached anything is possible.
