I questioned the hype around CJ earlier in the year, and thought Kunkel a better player. Lately, I see the AAU hype for CJ is for real. He has taken it up a few notches from the last 4 or so games I've seen. He is as fun to watch as Kunkel when he plays with this focus and intensity, and he may be a better shooter.

 

The above simply says you didn’t see CJ enough to form an opinion. He has been consistent the entire season.

1- C.J. plays the hardest schedule in state

2- C.J. has better season averages

3- C.J. stats against like opponents not even close

4- CJ was better in combined head to head.

5. C.J. has one regional loss. Kunkel has two

CJ is a very good player that benefits from being surrounded by other very good players and a system built perfectly for him. He's not as good as his supporters think but he's not as bad as his detractors would suggest.....but somewhere in the middle. Watching the game last night I was much more impressed by his team. A.J. makes them something different on a different level defensively.

Yes, but some systems fit other kids better. This system is perfect for CJ's skill set. A ton of screens from some very good players. Everyone on his team has to be accounted for. It's difficult to double team this group.

NKAC coaches meeting was this morning. I was told Kunkel and Fredrick Co-player of year as voting ended in a tie as voted on by D1 coaches which includes, Cooper, CovCath, Conner, Ryle, Boone County, Campbell County, Scott, Dixie Heights, and Simon Kenton. (you can't vote for your own player)

I'm not clear on what point you are making in the POY debate. Are you saying CJ benefits more from the CCH system than Kunkel does from the Cooper system? Does Sully not run Kunkel off of screens?

After looking at stats CJ Frederick, he should run away with Player of the Year in Northern Kentucky.

CJ Frederick ( Covington Catholic):

22.5 ppg. 57.4% FG 48.8% 3FG 83.7 % FT

 

Non 9th Region Schedule:

Lexington Catholic, Cincinnati Moeller, Cincinnati La Salle,Ensworth, Ballard, Fern Creek, Florida Prep, Leesburg, Pickerington Central , Oak Hill, IN, Middletown, Roger Bacon, Boyle County and Madison Central

Many of those of those Non Kentucky schools are listed as the top schools in the class. One of the toughest schedules in the state.

 

Stats against Northern Kentucky Schools:

25.0 ppg. 63% FG 55% 3pg 86 % FT

You also have to consider that he isn't play the full game against a lot of these NKY teams.

 

Those stats are unreal. Many consider him one of the best to ever play at Covington Catholic. Those stats prove that he might be one of the best in Northern Kentucky in a long time. To me its a no brainer .

 

Nky is blessed to have two of the best players in the state in him and Kunkel. However imo them two are not even the best player in NKY in the last 5 years. Imo that would be James Beetle Bolden from Holmes. CJ and Kunkel are great, but imo it has not been a long time since we seen guys as good as them. In fact it's been less than 3 years.
