February 2, 20188 yr Friend daughter 4.3 GPA / 33 ACT $1500 from UK Hard to believe with that composite of an ACT.
February 2, 20188 yr 529 plans can help a little if you are financially able to fund them...........which is normally tough for young families.
February 2, 20188 yr Hard to believe with that composite of an ACT. UK automatic offer (based on ACT/GPA) is pretty low, you have to get one of their competitive scholarships to get any real money out of them.
February 2, 20188 yr Hard to believe with that composite of an ACT. I was just researching this week. The provost scholarship is just based off of grades and it isn’t a selective or competitive scholarship, and it starts at $2500 with a 26 ACT and 3.3 GPA. They also have a presidential scholarship for full tuition with a 31 ACT and another one that offers full tuition plus $10k for housing for a 33 ACT. Those are competitive though.

Yes, that’s what I was looking at. 26 ACT gets you about $2500. It takes a 31 to even be considered for their competive scholarships. Transylvania offers like $16k for a 26. That’s why it is sometimes better to go to private school depending on scholarship money received compared to tuition. A lot less students mean less competition for scholarship money.
February 2, 20188 yr Hard to believe with that composite of an ACT. She and her family were shocked. Shows you the quality of student getting into UK.
February 2, 20188 yr WKU is getting pretty aggressive trying to lure top students we were told. WKU is starting a Satelite Med/School Program in connection with UK. Which is great timing for as that's what my daughter want's to pursue.
February 2, 20188 yr Less and less people will be going to college as long as these trends continue. College tuition and fees are robbery.

Transy cost about $48K per year including books, room and board...$16K is great, but still leaves a lot to make up.

February 2, 20188 yr She and her family were shocked. Shows you the quality of student getting into UK. I don't know the kid but, more than likely, a really good kid. Not every kid with a 33 ACT is necessarily a well rounded kid. Certainly a very smart kid on that form of assessment. With that beng said, I personnaly do not like the ACT or SAT weighted as heavily as they are for college acceptance and scholarships. They are culturally biased and normed unfairly IMO. However, it is what it is, and a kid would be making an unwise decision if they wish to attend college to not practice, practice, practice for it. The number one predictor of success in college is active involvement in high school in sports, clubs, music, art, etc.
