February 1, 20188 yr By the way has any else been on UK’s campus recently? It’s ridiculous. If you question why tuition is so expensive just take a look at the new dorms. The new student center will be open soon as well. If you went to UK 10 years ago I’m not sure you would recognize the campus today.

A lot of schools have went through a building boom over the last 10 years or so.

He used his KEES $$ for the things the scholly wouldn't pay. The deal I had with my kids was if you get a full ride you get a new car. He was the only one of the four to take advantage of that deal. Using KEES for anything other than tuition could change in the Gov proposed budget (no opinion for politics just what I have read).
February 2, 20188 yr When I graduated high school, I had so many opportunities available to me. I had full scholarship offers to Union College and Pikeville College. But my dad had died in a car accident and I was just angry about a lot of things. I let those opportunities pass me by with the understanding that I'd go back. I regret that decision to this day, as I've been taking classes here and there for the better part of the last decade. It's tough, but I may have that degree before I'm 40.

Didn’t get the car until I graduated college though.
February 2, 20188 yr My daughter's sophomore ACT score (and her GPA) is high enough to get her free tuition at most state schools...hope fully she bumps it up high enough to get some room and board covered as well. Something I’m going thru now. I have a junior and we have been exploring colleges. Each school is totally different in how much they offer. ACT anywhere from 28-31 will get you most of, if not all of your school paid. We have been looking at UK, UL, Transylvania and Georgetown right now and the private schools are just as competitive cost wise as the public’s. It seems they tend to offer more scholarship money. My daughter didn’t take the ACT as sophomore. She is actually taking it next weekend but carries 4.1 weighted GPA so I’m hoping for a good score. The ACT score determines how much money you get.

February 2, 20188 yr Students should look to community colleges as an option. At least for a couple of years. Work as much as possible while going to school. I had two jobs for a significant part of my time in school. Some of my friends had full-time jobs while also being full-time students. Especially work your butt off during the summer. College costs have absolutely skyrocketed, no question. But I think there are a lot of options available, even though they may not be ideal.

College costs have absolutely skyrocketed, no question. But I think there are a lot of options available, even though they may not be ideal. One friend in particular was from Valparaiso. He worked summers at a fireworks store & averaged 80 to 100 hours a week. He had little summer social life, but little student loan debt too.
