Featured Replies

Who ever wins 4A in NKY will have agood chance to win one this year ! It's a little bit of a reach , but ya never know ! No respect for NKY 4A in the state , so with the new region this year , it could be the year !:D

Now back to on topic, I think Mercer will get it...

Covington Holy Cross will win the 1A State Championship 2006

I dont think that will happen at all. Actually I think the best they will end up doing is 3rd in the district once again, because I believe the will get knocked out in the first round when they play NCC again....

To the topic at hand, I will agree with Mercer County or Western as the favorites to get the monkey off their back.

This thread has been cleaned up and we need it to stay on topic.

It is not to discuss enrollments, playing out of class, mergers, etc. Lets just stick to answering the question asked in the first post.

Thanks everyone for your help. :thumb:

I would have to say Mercer would be the favorite.

I think Mercer may win their one and only title this year.

With the merger of the schools and one of the states best coaches I see a program that will be at the top year end and year out on the horizon.

You might want to check out next year's 5A before making predictions. That aside, I like their chances this year.

No disrespect, but IMO I think you should get out of the prediction game because you are not very good at it. After HC beats BHS, and then Dayton again, and BHS beats NCC, then we will be back where most people are now wondering who will win HC or BHS.

You might also check out things in Mercer Co./Harrodsburg 1st hand, before you start making these doubts. For you and others who dont think that Mercer wont succeed (winning, making playoff runs, possible state championships) in the new 5A alignment, well, just watch and wait.

As for the next couple years in 5A (it wont surprise me at all that when the next realignment comes out in a couple years, that Mercer will probably drop down to 4A, the only reason they will be 5A the next two years is because of 60/40, boy/girl ratio that they currently have in the HS..they'll be one of the smallest 5A schools), Mercer will do just fine. They will lose a boat load of talent after this year, but they currently have a great group of Sophomores, a sophomore class that would be getting a lot more playing time this year, if it werent for the current senior class.

Another thing, Mercer in 5A will be in the east semi-state. Their district will include Southwestern Pulaski, Pulaski County, South Laurel and Lincoln Co, all of whom who are very good football programs. The region will include the "mountain" 5A schools of Perry Co. Central, North Laurel, Clay County, etc....Highlands, CovCath and Ashland are the big names in the other region of Mercer's semi-state.

No actually I will be surprised if they do all those things including "state championships". That is a pretty exclusive club. I'd say the odds are against them in general but when you factor in they will have to deal with the winningest program (tied anyway) in the state the going gets tougher. But hey, its your opinion and you are entitled to it. I'll stick by my prediction.

One good year against sub-par competiton does not a dynasty make. Bold predictions about their prowess against better, tradition rich progams does nothing but put a target on your teams back next year. Get through this year and get yourselves a ring before worrying about how great you will be against the big boys. Enjoy Success while you can! It will be a much toughter road to travel next year:cry:

Covington Holy Cross will win the 1A State Championship 2006

Interesting choice. First they have to beat probably both Beechwood and NCC. And I'm not convinced that either one of those teams is a top 3 team in 1A. I'll say this, if HC wins a state championship, they certainly will have earned it.

For my money, I'll take Mercer. What is in the water in the Boyle Co. area?
