I think Mercer County. That is, if they have never won state before. I am not very well educated in the history of their football program.

Here's a list of the past state champions.

I would have to say Mercer Co. also...

I think that Mercer Co. will win Class 2A this year, for their first State Title. I think the other classes will all have repeat (previous years) Champions.

Covington Holy Cross will win the 1A State Championship 2006

I think the best shot this year would be Western in Class 2A.

Kind of a long shot but if JC keeps rolling and puts away Ashland in a big way, that game could really swing some momentum in their favor and maybe give them what they need to make a run to Papa John's Stadium

There are at least 15 teams in the state that Mercer could not play close. They are a really good 2A team but 4a and even some 3a teams just have too much strength, speed and talent. IMO

Thats why the good lord allows us to give opinions, just like the one I gave. BTW Mercer has a boat load of strength, speed and talent and those 3 things are coached by one of the best Coaches in HS football in Jaggers.

I agree, Mercer seems the likely candidate to get their first State Title this year. I hope they do in fact. When they do win it, they will have a huge target on their backs next year. They will get shown very quickly the difference in stepping up 2 classes to compete with the likes of HHS, Covcath, Dixie , Hoptown, and Bowling Green, etc., on a yearly basis. I truly wish them good luck! They will need next year!::thumb:

I'd put my money on LCA...Maybe not this year, but, they're an up and coming program...

Mercer and Western have a great shot at getting one this year.

 

Two weeks ago, I would have said Belfry or Russell would hold 2a power in the East. Given Belfry's poor effort against Sheldon Clark, it is difficult to seriously consider them a TOP contender (although still a contender to some extent). Taking one more logical step, Ashland beat Russell and Belfry in similar fashion. The game is not based on paper. Matchups certainly play a significant role, but applying basic logic, Russell appears to be an underdog IMO at this point to repeat.

 

I think Mercer and Western will battle it out to see a new 2a champion crowned.

 

In all honesty (and in DIRECT contradiction to recent predictions) I think Middlesboro represents the best of the East this season. I think they have better talent than anyone in the East (they may have last season) but I wonder about their coaching. IMO, his gambling defensive style is not effective given his personel.
