Just to be clear. Are you saying that the officiating was poor overall or that all three officials intentionally called the game in Highlands favor?

 

I think the officiating was poor averalk but they definitely favored Highlands. Highlands coaches questioned every single call even when it was in their favor as to why one ref called it instead of another. I think their constant complaining and constant individual conversations with the refs affected the game for sure. Lady Camels have played the same aggressive defense every game this year and refs have been consistent with their calls. Yesterday was a totally different animal because the refs completely changed the way the Lady Camels has to defend. So yes I would say refs made the difference.

I thought officiating was average at the high-school level. Still a very exciting game.

Really are you for real? I'm a fan of highlands coaching staff but you honestly think them questioning calls made them get more calls? Really? Highlands is just an average team with above average coaching no way they should have beat CC I dont care if Berts dad was the ref.

I believe that this game really came down to one team carrying out a very good game plan and the other one not adjusting to the fact that what they were able to do to other teams didn't work against HHS. Specifically, they pressed the entire game and created very few turnovers that lead to quick scores/offensive runs. More than that, they were a step slow on D and a LOT of their fouls were from not cutting off the sideline resulting in blocking fouls. Again, a pressing team getting more fouls. There were some obvious suspect calls, 5th on Schwarber comes to mind .......welcome to HS basketball? Officiating did not decide this game.

Regarding HHS being a barely above average team and "playing as well as they can play" is an unfounded backhanded slap at a team you have likely only seen play once. Further, if they are not a quality team, then this is a really bad loss for CC.

The characterization that Schwarber&Clos sat "half the game" is simply not accurate. Before fouling out, Schwarber sat very little, Clos sat some in 1st Half w/fouls and some situational subbing to protect her from fouls in 2nd half.......state title contenders have to be able to adapt to this inevitibility.

That this "barely above average team" was able to hold the trio of Clos/Schwarber/Stapleton each well below their respective scoring averages might be the lesson for CC to start considering for moving forward. It's on film now so it's time to make adjustments and for other players to step up if they do hope to make a run. CC has a very nice team but adjustments, not excuses, will help them succeed. I hope they grow from this and go far.

As for HHS, this could be turning the corner for them to believe...... Healthy and focused, they have a legitimate chance in a very balanced 9th.

Shame on Coach Menefee and the lady Camels for not adjusting to the difference in officiating from 10th to 9th regions officials. All 16 regions call it different. They can’t bring their region’s refs with them to state so learn to adjust.

So again cheaters? Great life lesson to blame others, hopefully the team was told it wasn’t there fault for a loss.

The Highlands - Campbell County JV game matched two undefeated teams and was a pretty good game, as JV games go, Highlands squeaking out a close one on that one as well. Highlands only has one senior in the program, so I think it bodes well for the Birds looking ahead ....

 

Wrong CC's JV is not undefeated and was not!!

My bad ... Now having offered the full measure of contrition, could you tell me what Campbell's JV record and who has beaten them? Because they did look like a pretty good JV team.

Conner/CC played last week and Conner won by double digits! I have no idea what CC record is.

Campbell never adjusted during the game on offense or defense. Highlands made it a point to attack and get to the line. Campbell made it a point to launch 3s and not attack. Highlands game plan defensively was perfect. Campbell style is prone to foul a lot if the other team can handle it. The Birds did a real good job handling the pressure in second half. Were there calls that were suspect? Sure both ways but officiating didn't cost Campbell this loss, Campbell cost Campbell.

 

The Highlands staff is as well prepared for an opponent as any you'll see in northern Ky. They always give their girls a chance to win the game even when they are down talent wise.

Was at Saturday's game. It is clearly seen that CC's head coach aggressively sticks his tongue out at the head coach of the Birds. The Birds, then proceed to beat the number one team in the state, bringing Jaime Richey's record against this head coach to 3-1.

I was there too, he looked at the assistant coach who he'd been taking to before the game and opened his mouth with a look of disbelief. He was not sticking it out in an aggressive manner.

And that one win is Campbell County's first over Highlands in 40 years.
