Now that the district races are getting close to wrapping up and teams are starting to fill out their places, what teams have shown the biggest surprises so far this year. OR What teams have shown the biggest disappointments?

 

I for one am surprised at the following:

PRP- I really felt that they would have a better showing this year. However, they are currently 0-3 in District play and with 2 games left against Butler and Iroquois, they maybe looking at being 1-4 (or worse, 0-5) and missing the playoffs. I think many people felt they would perform better vs their district but two huge losses to St. X & Male have shown that they are not as competitive as originally thought (especially by me). PRP must beat Butler and Iroquois to remain alive for playoff hopes.

 

Iroquois- A team with tons of senior leadership and decent athletes started off very well going 4-1 with a quality win against Central Hardin, despite a tough loss to (what now doesnt look so bad) Valley to begin the season. Yet their performance against Male, Butler & St. X have shown that they are still in no position to run with the "big boys" of 4-A. Butler loss reaffirms that once this team enters district play, they just seem to be missing that key element that can get them over the hump. At some point in time I wonder when does "They played the other team tough despite the score" get old?

In NKY I'd say that Covington Holy Cross is having a surprise team, I think their record is 8-1, and they pulled off their first victory in the young program's history over NCC. They still have a showdown with Beechwood to see who will win the district. Their offense has a lot of good skill position players and their line so far has been getting the job done.

 

Also in NKY I'd say that Simon Kenton is having a disappointing season, they started out 3-0 going into the districts and have since went 1-4, eliminating them from the playoffs. SK was expected to be a contender to win the district, coming off a playoff year with their most talented group of offense in quite a few years

NKY is Right on the money with those two.

Biggest Surprise in 2006 is Lincoln County, disappointment is probably the fallout in Boyle County.

3A - Knox Central & Johnson Central

2A - Larue Co., Western

1A - LCA, Bethleham

The biggest suprise to me is Mercer county..On the the other hand the biggest disappointment would have to be Lynn Camp....

Is anyone going to call Manual a pretty pleasant surprise? They were all but left for dead with a very young roster.

First of all... TigerDude13 - great topic to introduce to this forum!

 

I think LCA is a huge surprise to me and I am an LCA fan! They lost ALL key personnel and yet are 5-0 in District play...(yes I am biased) 7-2 overall with losses to Mercer County and Corbin.

I also am surprised(impressed) at Cov Holy Cross performance to date.

 

Disappointments are Dunbar and Berea to me...again I can only respond to teams I am familiar with in the Central KY region. I would really like to see Berea come out of their funk soon. Those kids do play hard and it is VERY difficult to maintain thoughout the season.

I think due to the fact that Manual pretty much came in with a question mark as opposed to a genuine red mark makes them exempt from either surprise or dissappointment with the season they've had so far.
