I would think that part of the deal is a measure of goodwill. If the shoe was on the other foot and your team had the opportunity to reward a group of kids for their work and skill the goodwill would be reciprocated.

If the contract was like many of these agreements, it provided for a buyout payment. It could be called by some as damages for the breach of the contract by HHS. Neither could force the other to actually play the game. Although we are talking about kids playing games, it is still a business arrangement and should be treated as such. It sounds like HHS and AHS did so.

 

If AHS and RHCS enter into a contract for a game, it must be done in a businesslike manner. Each must negotiate an arrangement that is positive for its school. I oppose the game. However, if it works out, RHCS cannot accept a deal that gives AHS not only a likely win but also a home game with a potential $7,000.00+ gate with RHCS getting nothing but a loss out of it.

The tone of this thread has changed from "let them play" and "should play every district opponent" to "show me the money"

I am merely a poster who is a RHCS partian. I state my opinion but I don't make the decisions. Neither do the other posters from the two schools. Agreements are reached by the applicable representatives of each school and not on BGP.

 

To believe that everything is "for the kids" is naive. HHS is going to Lexington to play LexCath. HHS will be very well compensated for its trip to Lexington and rightfully so since it will produce a huge gate. Such arrangements are not unusual at all when the game is a "headliner".

 

After all the "give and take" (I can think of more appropriate phrases but I don't want automatic suspension), a AHS-RCHS game is, for this area, the ultimate "headliner". It will fill Anderson Gymnasium to capacity (assuming that is where a game would be played this year). Why should RCHS officials agree to enrich AHS's coffers with nothing in return?

 

Don't confuse RHCS and AHS posters with those who make the decisions. Posters can rant and crow all they want but it has nothing to do with working out the actual agreement.

 

RHCS has reached the point where it should be treated as an equal by its neighbors. However, to do so, it must negotiate as an equal which means in a businesslike manner. I will be disappointed if a game is scheduled. I will be appalled if RHCS agrees to a game with absolutely no serious negotiation of terms. To do so would be proof that it has not earned the right to be an equal of the others.

Nothing has happened, in my opinion, to heal that situation. and, in fact, a goodly number of incidents have occurred to widen the divide. I support no common athletic activity between the two unless forced to do so by tournament scheduling and that extends to all high school athletic teams.

 

Just my opinion but an opinion based on a good knowledge of the facts and a good memory of the history of the "relationship".

What your saying is the people in charge of making that decision shouldn't be influenced by "posters" I agree.

All Rose Hill wants is the same terms every other team receives. Nothing more, nothing less. If there is a provision in the contract that is uncommon or attempts to put the screws to Rose Hill it won't be signed. Otherwise play ball.

I guess a buyout would be pre-arranged so that you wouldn't have any leverage to hold in circumstances like OJ transferring.

Can both teams join the Breezeland league and just play there in the summer? We could tan and have slushees while we watched.

No way I thought this game had a chance of happening. I’m still skeptical.

 

If it does take place, I will not hesitate to admit that my skepticism is off base and tip my hat to the administrators and coaches at both schools for behaving as sensible adults.

 

One of the greatest aspects of high school sports is the building of intense rivalries with cross town, cross county, county to county rivalries. When kept on a sportsmanlike and friendly competition level, these games remain the brightest memories for competitors long after their careers have faded. It has to be honestly admitted that the intensity of these rivalries in this area have waned over the past two decades. It makes no sense to reject an instant and exciting rivalry like this.

 

I hate to say it, but there aren't a whole lot of local high school games worth the price of admission for more than parents and grandparents. This matchup will not disappoint.

ScooterBob dont you think the type attitude these statements reflect is a poor one for the students, at both of these schools, to inherit? Wouldnt such a game open the door to help provide some much needed salve to help heal the situation? At this point in time it will require those in charge to offer some give and take on both ends and to act like adults that are charged with putting our YOUTHS best interest at heart before any such game can be played.
