December 27, 20178 yr He's got a pretty good point IMO. There's roughly 30 people a year in America killed by dogs. There were roughly 17K people murdered in America last year. No he doesn't, it's a terrible point. Using his logic we shouldn't worry about murder as long as over a million people are dying each year in car crashes.
December 28, 20178 yr Husband speaks out after pit bull attack | WHAS11.com A Southeastern Kentucky husband is grieving after his wife of 38-years was attacked and killed by his neighbor's pit bulls. The Bell County Sheriff says Lorraine Saylor was in her yard when she was attacked on Christmas Eve. John Saylor says he went outside to check on his wife when one of the dogs attacked him. He says he fought off the dogs, suffering more than 20 bites, shortly after finding his wife with severe injuries. "I kissed her on the forehead. She said, 'I love you.' I said, 'I love you too, honey,' not knowing that would be my last kiss," Saylor says.
December 28, 20178 yr I would never own a pit bull so I will start with that. But I will also say this, I know a ton of Pit Bull owners that do a fantastic job. They require a ton of work, but anyone who chooses to own a pit bull and let's it either 1) get into a situation where it could hurt a child or any other person or 2) neglects the dog by failing to raise it correctly, is 100% responsible and not the dog. Don't own a pit bull if you aren't capable of owning a pit bull. They require as much attention as a child if not more. If you can't handle that and choose to own a pit bull anyways it's your own damn fault not the dogs. Here's the issue. There is NO margin for error with a Pit Bull and too many are raised by gangstas, whether real or imaginary, who don't give a darn about raising the dog. All they want to do is project an image. You neglect a labrador, he isn't going around the neighborhood with a buddy taking down a horse.
December 28, 20178 yr Sorry. You’re about 40 times more likely to be killed by another person than a pit bull. Maybe we should solve that problem first. What does that have to do with the dog breed or their tendency to go whole hog during an attack?

If every Pit Bill had an owner who was competent we wouldn't hear about these attacks.
December 28, 20178 yr Hence the issue is with the owners and not the dogs. If every Pit Bill had an owner who was competent we wouldn't hear about these attacks. Tell that to the woman in Virginia who by all accounts treated her pit bulls with nothing but love and affection since raising them from puppies. Oh wait, she's dead from being mauled by those same dogs.

December 28, 20178 yr What does that have to do with the dog breed or their tendency to go whole hog during an attack? Absolutely nothing. I just think it's super important that we don't look at this issue without first discussing person-on-person violent crime.
December 28, 20178 yr Hence the issue is with the owners and not the dogs. If every Pit Bill had an owner who was competent we wouldn't hear about these attacks. No breed has that. That's why Pit Bulls are so dangerous. If another dog has a lazy or irresponsible owner, then that dog may bite. It may be a gruesome bite. W/ Pit Bulls, in a one-on-one situation, it is almost certainly death. Since we can't guarantee 100% competent ownership, we need to enforce 100% abstinence of ownership of them.
December 28, 20178 yr Absolutely nothing. I just think it's super important that we don't look at this issue without first discussing person-on-person violent crime. Nobody can possibly deny that murder is a hugely important topic. However, for the sake of this thread, it is a topic in a different ballpark.

Should we also enforce 100% abstinence of ownership of firearms too? The # of pit bull involved attacks is such a minuscule % of the total pit bull population. To ban them because of the handful that attack is ridiculous.
December 28, 20178 yr Nobody can possibly deny that murder is a hugely important topic. However, for the sake of this thread, it is a topic in a different ballpark. Fine. Did the "victim" put their hands at their side to signal they weren't a threat? Did they turn their back on the dog and make themselves a fish in a barrel? Did they try telling the dog to "sit" or "stay?" Did they make their teeth visible, which is an aggressive action, to the dog? Did they do anything prior to the attack that the dog could have perceived as threatening? I need more details.
December 28, 20178 yr No this isn't silly. Pit bulls continue to maul children and older people all the time. The statistics don't lie. As a father, there's just no chance I'm trusting a pit bull around my children. Anyone that would is crazy, and that applies to pretty much any dog. Pits are just a heck of a lot stronger than other dogs.

You should be able to get dogs out of your yard without getting mauled. I'm not saying other breeds aren't capable of this, but Pit Bulls seem to do this much more frequently and effectively than other breeds. There is NO margin for error with them. When they are switched on, they are killing or getting killed doing it. A woman or child is not stopping one and a grown man isn't stopping 2 without the grace of God.

Until I have the details I asked for, I'll just have to assume the pit bull felt threatened. There's no other reason it would kill a person.
