OK, you are making way to much sense! By the way, who ever teaches form tackling for Raceland should make an instructional video, they would make a fortune. As I said in the State Championship post, they are by far the best tacking team I have seen in ages. BW only broke one tackle during the game that I can recall. Going to have to travel down the AA to see a home Rams game next year, your team made a fan out of me.

You want to talk to Coach Mark Lewis, 33 years (or so) coaching. He coached at Ironton Ohio when they went to the State Championship game several times and won two. Raceland was lucky to get him after he retired from Ohio was looking for an out of state job. He is the Defensive Coordinator and a coach any program would love to have.

 

I hope you can make down the AA and see a game. Raceland has a very good atmosphere. You will love it.

I just checked Ohio attendance. They moved their championships from Columbus back to Stark County and played all in the Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton. For years, they alternated the games between Canton and Massillon.

 

Their total attendance for 7 games was up by 6,071 from last year and averaged 8,786.

 

KY has averaged 8,581. If 6A can have 9,811 KY will have a higher average than Ohio and if they get 18,597, Ky would outdraw OH with 6 games vs OH's 7.

 

Not bad for a state that is not known for their football vs a state that claims to be one of the top 5 nationally in HS Football.

So the moral of the thread is that it makes perfect sense to have the Championship games in Lexington. That's been my feeling for years, I just haven't been vocal about it.

Newness factor, proximity and great weather are all factors.

Considering who 6A is expected to be most years, I'd think there was a lack of foresight scheduling 6A on Sunday like they did.

Great Weather, a few "Local" teams, Furthest away teams having rabid fan bases that would drive to Panama to see their teams play and new location were a perfect storm as far as attendance this year.

 

Lexington is probably as central a location as you can get in an oblong state.
