Covington Holy Cross 88 Beechwood 11

Don't start that Cap. No one has a problem when the Beechies win a football game 60 to 0. Can t have it both ways.

Was that the real reason for the score?

Little bit of a difference, in football you just can't take a knee for 3 downs and punt it. In basketball you can make passes while they sit in a zone, a coach can tell the players to make 5 passes before we shoot and only take certain shots. BTW 60-0 football game is only 15 points a quarter I am sure Beechwood would have liked a 60-11 game. Just saying.

Not saying it was, just saying its happened in the past.

No dog in this fight. To me, telling your team to pass the ball around to run the clock or make 5 passes and only take certain shots is just like taking a knee! Just Saying

^^^^This. For whatever reason, the clock didn't "run" until 4th quarter or late, late third quarter at best. Beechwood is EXTREMELY young. Almost all their kids played both the JV and Varsity games. HC had an excellent shooting night and played the entire bench. Press called off after it was 12-0. The only thing HC could have done is hold the ball or play keep away and that is way worse than just letting them "play."

Welcome aboard @James Graham - Great first post!

So moving the ball around while the other team plays zone in which you are taught to do is the same as kneeling 3 times and punting, I don't think so. I'm sure you have watched your fare share of football so you have watched a team kneel and no one hardly moves but the center and QB. Would you agree with that?

Respectfully disagree.

In the words of Big Zig- "Respectfully disagree."

So you both are ok with the 88-11 score when clearly it didn't have to be that way? A coach/team has control over how many fast breaks to take, how many passes to make and what type of shot to take. I just think its wrong to do that to a team.

Here's one thing we do know. The HC coaching staff is certainly capable of having their team slow things down. Reference the 35-32 State Championship game orchestrated by the same staff. It was like the Old 4 corners going on out there.

Beechwood didn't have enough 8th graders to field an 8th grade team so the 8th graders play JV and varsity. all of the beechwood players playing right now on JV and varsity are 8th, freshman and sophomores. The only returning player from last year varsity is hurt and she is the lone player from the upper class. Going to be a rough year so hopefully in a few years they can be competitive.

Why the lack of interest from the upperclassmen?

Last comment on this... this score will not be an aberration after Beechwood plays the other top ten schools on their schedule. The JV score was 50-0 with a running clock and basically the same Beechwood kids played both games. Like another poster said, hopefully this year will help Beechwood in the years that follow. They are very young. I wish them well. Put simply, however, there was absolutely no attempt to run up a score in either game and anything to the contrary is #fakenews

Iv heard grumblings about the coaching staff. Not really with the current coach since he is new but who he has on his staff.

If the Beechies are nothing but Soph, Frosh, & 8th graders why not forgo a varsity schedule and play strictly a JV schedule? I don't know if this is possible in hoops, but Cov Latin did this in softball two years ago.

Why the lack of interest from the upperclassmen?

Not sure. For whatever reason Beechwood has just not embraced girls basketball. I know a lot of girls chose club volleyball instead of basketball.
