I'm not in the Newport loop, but from an outsiders point of view they're going to need someone who is mentally strong. Obviously losing takes a toll on a coach mentally, but it takes a bigger one on high school kids. I'm not saying the previous coach wasn't mentally strong. To find a person who is 1)Good at Xs and Os 2) A great motivator and 3) Mentally unbreakable will be a tough find.

 

I'm not sure how Roy Lucas did it back in the 90s, but he took a program that was about to be cancelled and took it as high as it ever was. I hope the new coach can demand and get the respect from the players to put in the time and give the effort in the weight room and on the field.

Lucas was a real good coach.

Unofficially official would be my guess? The decision made today or over the weekend with the official announcement in the coming days. That’s standard protocol for most places due to people sometimes having 2nd thoughts and backing out a day or two later. This way when all parties agree then there is usually a day or two for all to be certain and then proceed with the official announcement.
