Not intended as a shot at Morgan, but I don't think he's cut out for high school head coaching - much less doing it at a job as challenging as Newport. I just don't see the jump from pee-wee coaching to high school coaching is one that very many people can make at all. Then you add in all the challenges that work against the Newport program, and man do you have a damn tough job.

Oh lord no. I don’t know the guy, but I could almost guarantee he wouldn’t be cut for that kind of gig.

He is basically the only one left most of the good coaches have left a long time ago. He does do a good job though.

 

BTW that league is pretty week now, been begging for teams to move over to the NKYFL.

Where is Nick Partin? I know he got into coaching. He was a tough son of a gun and very good player. We got a kick out of him trash talking our sideline when he played corner at Newport. Those were fun games between Mason County & Newport!

 

I will always be a fan of Newport HS football. I hope they can find them a guy that can make it work.

 

No...not Nick. Ha ha. I remember umpiring a knothole game and he asked me if I wanted him to hit a grand slam (bases loaded obviously). I said sure, and he said, "Center Field." Two pitches later....

Current CC Freshman Head Coach, Justin Mason. Has 5 years Varsity Coaching experience, 4 under Coach Styers (2 of those as DC), and coached DL for Coach Lickert. Also has coached the past 3 years as Freshman head coach with some great results.

 

He grew up playing as a Fire Fighter and lived in south Newport. Interesting. He's a great guy who lives and dies the game.
