I can't predict any differences than the regular season outcome or the 2005 or the 2007 game or the 2012 game or last years game. Until we prove we do it on the field, then it is nonsense. Has our defense gotten better? yes. Have our Wide receivers been more of a threat deep yes. Have we gotten experience at the running back and QB position? yes. But Trinity is Trinity and if no one from Indiana, Florida, Ohio, and Kentucky can beat them, should you ever pick against them? Trinity has to beat Trinity by turning the ball over or making mistakes on defense. Santana Jones and AJ McDuffie destroyed us on defense the first game. Trinity by 60.

 

There is some agreement.

Just a sidenote. The 2005 game turned when St. X QB, Brent Curley, went out with injury early, and X was forced to play with a sophomore QB. Should have won that game. Even so, came down to just about the final play.

An awful lot of ground to make up this year.

For X to have an opportunity to pull off the upset they have convert 3rd downs on offense and can't turn the ball over. If they can do those two things it will give them at least a punchers chance. If not, it'll be another championship for T.

I'm not sure I agree with the notion of spending all of that time on Rondale Moore. If you double team Moore, someone else will be open, and those guys are good. It may be very difficult to cover Moore, but if someone can handle it without a lot of extra attention you can keep the other guys covered (maybe).

St. X always scares me as a Trinity fan. Trinity better be prepared for a war.

I did. He thinks X needs to double cover Moore. He did and only lost by three touchdowns. He also thinks Trinity needs to turn it over a bunch of times and rack up a lot of penalties. He reads like X can't win it, Trinity has to lose it. I'll take that.

 

My take is a little different. I don't think X can ram it down Trinity's throat with their running game. Trinity's front seven are really good. X does have a mismatch when you look at their tall tight end and wide receivers compared to Trinity's defensive backs. In my opinion, that is the mismatch they will need to exploit in order to win. Trinity will need to prevent anything deep, make good tackles after completions and keep strong pressure and containment on the X quarterback. Not easy, but I think they can do it.

Trinity also has some mismatches in that X can't match their speed or hands. The Trinity receivers can flat out catch the ball.

X couldn't run the ball the first time. Will that be better? Trinity didn't run the ball very well from the running back position in the first game. Most of the running yards were from the slot. Smith is running the ball much better than in the first game. That will be a big difference. That ability to run the ball will also free up Moore and the rest of the receivers. I don't think it is an accident that the past couple of weeks Trinity has been using the running game very extensively. I think Coach Beatty knew that it needed to improve. It has.

X will absolutely have to (and should anyway) throw it to win. I've seen a couple team have success throwing it on the Rocks this year.

 

They will not win the game running the ball excessively.

Not to thread jack, but when has Chris Wolfe beaten either team without Keyon Wakefield? I believe that Mr. Wolfe's coaching prowess is a bit over rated.

I agree with the sentiment that X has some good, tall receivers. They concern me. From what little I've seen of him, X QB Albers has a really good arm.

As a matter of fact, I think he throws some short passes too hard sometimes. Should be good weather for the game. This is T's second day game (Moeller). With it being played at 2 p.m. on a Sunday, it is reminiscent of the old X-Flaget games.

What would your guesses be as to attendance? I think T will travel just like they normally do. And I think X will do their part, maybe getting some of their folks who have been fair weather no-shows recently. And if I were a Lexington native I would think this would be a pretty good event to see on a very mild Sunday afternoon in Dec.
