October 11, 200620 yr How about the Bearcats players come out dressed like Colonel Sanders looking for a replacement of chickens? What's that I hear? Is it the distant sound of crickets chirping?

October 11, 200620 yr It is kind of funny that we (BGP land) are now 3-3 on bird stomping/home game threads.
October 11, 200620 yr Today's Enquirer Article Really, do people outside of Louisville know how ridiculous this whole thing has become to everyone ouside of the Watterson Expressway? Actually the Watterson Expressway only incompasses a small part of Louisville's population, I think you were looking for the Gene Snyder. And even then that excludes a about one 5th of the population of Louisville... I think the bird stomping is ridiculous, on the part of the stompers. All it boils down to is this, Louisville coaches will stop passing in the fourth if you don't stomp on the bird, if you do stomp on the bird then the Louisville coaches are going to try to score point they can. Why give Louisville a reason to get pumped up? Basically you are asking for trouble if you stomp. It is disrespectful or atleast the Cards take it as such so reguardless of how anyone else views the act the Cards are going to get pumped up and upset about it. That is it. Someday some team will stomp and actually beat the Cards, but it will not be this week. UC's coach is right the hype is generated at this point but acting like he didn't know what was going on is dishonest. ESPN had written a few articles during the 2004 season about the ECU incident that started this whole thing. ECU started jumping on the bird and spitting on the bird and Robert "Hammer" McCune. Louisville thrashed them and ESPN made a big deal out of it, then other teams started doing it and the players took it as a matter of pride, then when UC came out a long time regional and Basketball rival, there is no way in my mind and seeing the event, that the players and coaches didn't know that it was a big deal to the Cards prior tothe game. That said they may not have cared what the Cards thought before the game and tried to do their normal ritual, but I think the Cards made them realize just how much it really does mean to them so in the future it should not be an issue. Right?

October 11, 200620 yr My only question is.. What happens when somebody stomps the bird and wins? There goes the mystique... It's over.. Would it ever matter if anybody stomped the bird again?
October 11, 200620 yr My only question is.. What happens when somebody stomps the bird and wins? There goes the mystique... It's over.. Would it ever matter if anybody stomped the bird again?Life would go on and we wouldn't talk about it any more. Seriously even if that happens, "Stomping on the Bird" will always be seen as a sign of disrespect.
October 11, 200620 yr My only question is.. What happens when somebody stomps the bird and wins? There goes the mystique... It's over.. Would it ever matter if anybody stomped the bird again?Only as a matter of pride. For instance, at Manual High School, once a long time ago Fern Creek beat us and then after the Game Manual always gathers by the "Hill" on the east endzone, well Fern Creeks players came over and started pushing the Manual players off the field and were saying that this was their house tonight. The Manual players disheartened after the total rout started for the lockerroom. After the game the Line coach at the time was so mad at the players he was about fit to be tied. He threw a table across the lockerroom and broke a window and then ran along side the bus back to school (about two Miles and I think he beat the bus back). He was not mad because they lost the game but for not standing up for themselves and letting the Fern Creek players take the hill and their home field from them. After that for many years, while that coaching staff was there it was a matter of pride and self respect that no matter what happened in the game Manual players would not let another team take their manhood and self respect like that. It was a big deal, by the time I got to Manual it was just a story more then a tradition, and now it is a pretty much lost memory and there is no such feeling about it that was there when I played that I know of. So that tradition is lost. But I imagine that when it does happen Louisville will still use the stomping on the bird as a matter of pride not to give up on themselves much like the Manual players did after that one sad night. And it will probably stick around for a decade or so.
October 11, 200620 yr In regards to when UC did it, maybe they just did it because it was cold? Who knows? Who cares? GO CARDS!!!

October 12, 200620 yr I'll go slow since you are having a hard time understanding. UL players wait for the team to do their routine. When they get near the bird, the Cards start jawing. It leads to a reaction from the other team, and the situation gets out of hand. The only thing UC did wrong in 04 was take the bait... Now it is I, who rarely laughs out loud while reading BGP, that is laying on the floor nearly in tears. GT is on fire! :flame:

October 12, 200620 yr I just don't think those outside of Jefferson Co. see this incident as a "war crime." So if you are baited into stomping the bird, by classless taunts, jeers, etc., who is really disrespecting who? And which shows the most lack of class? IMO it is no longer disrespectful when you are ANTAGONIZING the other team to do it. That's like saying a guy sucker punched you when you are over there running your mouth, telling him he won't do it. And then when it happens, you act so shocked and appalled. As far as coaches go, Mark Dantonio is about as classy as it gets. He has made some stops at some very prestigious universities on his way to UC, so I'd say he knows a thing or two about how to act. To flat out call him a liar is appalling. But here's what I can't believe no one has touched on yet. Anyone notice a trend with all these problems? UC, ECU, etc. have only had this problem where? Louisville. They don't have problems at other stadiums across the country. It's amazing how these problems seem to be "attracted" to the Cards. I wonder if they could have anything to do with it.....:walk:
