I think: Tampa Bay, Baltimore, and Seattle are possibilities in the AL and Chicago and San Francisco in the NL...that is if any of those teams haven't already replaced their Managers, the only baseball news I'm watching lately is the playoffs...no off field news for me...

Probably wants to take time off, he's been in the game for a long time and recently has encountered a lot more stress than usual and it might be getting to him. He should just walk away, and if he does then he'll get a standing ovation on his way out.

He just gives me the impression that he is not into the game mentally as he once was. Working for the Boss all these years, I could certainly understand why!!
October 9, 200619 yr Most say a manager is good for 5 extra wins during the season, in this case does it really matter. The so called best offense since the '27 Yanks get beat by a team that went 19-31 down the stretch, I doubt the manager had much to do with that, maybe the boss should stock up on some young pitching phenoms, that's what they need. Torre has been rumored "done" for the past three seasons, good luck to the next manager, he probably won't be the last for George.

October 9, 200619 yr If Sweet Lou is the next Yankee skipper what can he do different that seperates him from Torre. Lou is not the answer to the Yanks problem, unless he is a pitcher!! Being chosen as the Yankee manager would be the best temporary job in the world.

October 9, 200619 yr Torre himself admitted last week he didn't have to do anything but draw up the batting chart... Hard to blame the manager when with that concept, anyone can go coach the team. Torre does a nice job in the clubhouse and that is as important than anything. But, he does have some leaders like Jeter that can patrol the clubhouse for him. I think that his inability to shake ARod of his issues ultimately sank him, along with their first round flameout. The Yanks have neglected their bullpen over the last few years. They could not get to Mariano in the playoffs. Starting pitching was decent, but the middle was bad.
October 9, 200619 yr I have no doubt that Torre's a great manager... My comment was in defense of him, and wondering how you can fire a guy who supposedly didn't have to do any thing. He didn't win all those World Series championships because he didn't know what he was doing, but he lost a few because he wasn't given the right resources... Great players are one thing, a great team is an entire different breed.

I'm not a Lou fan....I can watch temper tantrums anywhere.
