November 27, 20178 yr All but too of those guys are already coaches in the SEC? Would adding Fisher and Kiffin be a HUGE upgrade? Hell half of those guys are maybe above average at best to start with. I don't get how half of them are above average at best? I think Mullen will do big things at Florida, Smart is already doing good things at UGA, Muschamp has South Carolina moving in the right direction, Auburn is probably playing the best of anyone in the country at the moment, and Fisher and Kiffin are going to turn any program around. The worst coach on that list is probably Ogeron.
November 27, 20178 yr Author Bottom line: there are numerous reasons why it would be acceptable to not want Schiano as your coach. You could just not like the guy, not think he's a good coach, he's from New Jersey, he failed miserably in the NFL. None of those reason should ever include the unfounded accusations regarding Penn State.

The worst coach on that list is probably Ogeron. Mullen is one of the good ones. I wasn't talking about him. Smart was also not who I was talking about. Although the jury is still out on him. His resume is still too short to decide. Muschamp was terrible at Florida. He finished this year trending up but that's about it. I don't think anyone would confuse Muschamp with a good head coach. Malzahn has been on the hot seat for the last 3 years. If he didn't turn it around this year is there any doubt Auburn would be looking for a new coach? He's been pretty bad in the SEC the last 3 years and overall average. Fischer isn't coming so not much point in discussing that. Kiffin maybe comes, if so he's record as a head coach has been great. I personally am not sold he makes a good head coach of a high profile program.
November 27, 20178 yr You know what Rutgers was when he took over, right? To be around .500 for his stint there is nothing short of remarkable. That program was not much better than a High School team. In the NFL, yeah it was joke level. Yep and outside of his 11-2 season there is nothing that impressive about it. The Big East was essentially a mid major for most of his stint at Rutgers.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Yes, the Big East sucked, but Rutgers was worse than that. I looked and he won 8+ games five times in his tenure, going 5-1 in bowl games. They made one bowl game prior to his arrival, in 1978. He is not a world beater, but above "meh" for that situation.

November 27, 20178 yr Would have paid extra to have read your thoughts on Derek Dooley if Schiano is “under qualified.” So Meyer retires at the end of the season, you happy if they hire Schiano?
November 27, 20178 yr So Meyer retires at the end of the season, you happy if they hire Schiano? Ohio State brought in a guy from Youngstown State previously. They would certainly take Schiano. Vols might be stuck with Hoke now, enjoy that unless Peyton comes in on his horse or Gruden unblocks their phone number.
November 27, 20178 yr According to the scoop (football scoop) the buzz going around in the profession is that Jimbo will be the new head coach at Texas A&M...
November 27, 20178 yr Author John Currie basically gave a giant middle finger to the Volunteer fans today. Basically saying the allegations against Schiano have been thoroughly vetted numerous times and they are ignorant to think otherwise. Schiano is a very well respected coach and they'll have trouble finding someone respectable to take the job. I'd bet on Brady Hoke being the guy.

November 27, 20178 yr This comes from Chris Landry who ESPN Booger said has more inside knowledge on it than anyone: "I have NOT been able to CONFIRM but Administrators at FLORIDA STATE tell me that they get the feeling that JIMBO FISHER is going to take the TEXAS A&M job and are preparing if that will happen...." Sounding more and more like Jimbo will be joining the SEC.
