Hey Highlands players, this is an unusually good CCH Team so stay the course.

QB's have a lot to do with winning in High school football. I believe Cov Cath has one of the best in the state this year. I don't know what is in the pipeline for these 2 programs but it will take a really good QB to get Highlands back to a competitive level. If they don't then Eddie will be hard to out coach. He has definitely changed the culture for CCH.

A few comments:

 

1) The celebration tonight was awesome. I don't often "go on about it", but my grandfather was a Colonel, my dad is a Colonel, and I am a Colonel. Tonight's celebration of 50 years of Cov Cath football made me incredibly proud to be a graduate of Covington Catholic High School. My parents sacrificed a lot of things to send my brothers and me to Catholic schools, and I am immensely thankful for that beyond words.

 

2) I've been following Cov Cath for most of my life. My parents tell people about how I knew the Cov Cath fight song when I was 2 years old. I do what I can to not 'gush' about Covington Catholic too often, but with the 50 year celebration tonight, I can't think of many times that I've been much prouder to be a Covington Catholic graduate and fan.

 

3) I've been following Cov Cath for a decent while. I've been to every state championship game that Covington Catholic has played in, and from where I'm standing, the team that the Colonels are currently fielding would beat every single one of them.

 

4) Cov Cath did not play their best game of the season tonight.

For a game that means so much, there was little to no passion, heart, desire, expectation of success. I am sure I will read tomorrow how someone just did not lineup right, or focus on their keys or did not trust someone, blah, blah, blah. I watched a CovCath team tonight that looked like the Highlands teams of old. They were confident and most importantly aggressive from the word "go". That is a direct reflection of the man in charge.

 

Highlands had some energy right up to the point of the first interception and from that point forward heads were hanging and the beat down was on. This seems to now be the rule and not the exception at Highlands.

 

I watched a team win 52-0 and have how many kids playing on both sides of the ball? I did not think that was possible in today's day and age of high school football. You know what, that is a coach that gets "IT".

 

I also saw a lot of heads hanging which was disappointing especially since they were in the game late into the 1st qtr. After they held Cov Cath to a FG and were only down 9-0 I thought that was huge. Then another turnover and they just seemed to accept the beating. Allowing them to score and go up 31-0 was when the game shouldve been called and the CovCath faithful should've just continued their halftime celebration long into the night.

So glad that someone else loves CCH as much as us. However at the game/ after party. There were so many like us!!!!! The culture is changing and it always starts with the leader. Eddie Evinston has ran this team better than any HS team in my days. I was on on the 97 team and moved up on the 94 team after the regular season and this team could win if each team was on their best game. I can't say anything about the 86 or 87 Team's because I Wasn't there. I did watch the 06 team. They were very good but not on the level from this team or the other state teams. IMO..

Unfortunately, I hate to see it at the expense of great CovCath teams accomplishments of the past. Candidly, it is a different game with different rules and different athletes (size, strength and speed). Would encourage all Colonels to enjoy this team, they are indeed special, as were previous championship teams in their era.

Well said. As an example of different eras, as great as the '17 Colonel D is, they've already given up more regular season points (56) than the '87 D allowed in an 11 game regular season (51). With that said, two different styles, different schedules. Both outstanding defenses in their time. This team's D, while not without some needed improvement, has me really excited.

Thanks Samcro. Was the running clock rule in effect during the '87 team's run? I personally opine the running clock was an outstanding rule change for high school football. Don't recall when it was adopted.

No, not around in late 80's/early 90's. I'm guessing running clock is 10-15 years old now? Maybe 20? Definitely a good rule, except for the backups that could use precious reps.

Hard to disagree. I'm excited by the fact that they still have plenty to improve upon. I hope they keep their head down and keep grinding.
