Do you think Cam Newton insulted the woman reporter? Was it sexist?

Recommended Posts

Good lord, have we devolved into becoming THAT sensitive in today's society? With the Las Vegas tragedy, the hurricanes, Puerto Rico essentially destroyed, N. Korea...THIS makes the national news? Come on!

Was it the most intelligent comment he could have made? Nope. Is he the most intelligent qb playing in the NFL? I'd say far from it. Was the comment sexist? Well, for you guys that hunt and or fish, whens the last time a girl/woman came up to you debating the .270 vs .308 AR platform for deer hunting, or discussed the Alabama rig for fishing? Never happened to me, and I'd be totally surprised and somewhat tickled by it if it did (not that I'm an expert myself on either topic). This guy has had dozens of coaches and hundreds of players (all men) talk intricacies of football to him. I'd say very very few women, if any, have. It's very possible he wasn't expecting quite the detailed question she asked and was somewhat taken aback by it and said the first thing that popped in his head. Smart? Maybe not. Sexist? :ohbrother:And I am FAR from a Cam Newton fan.

It's her job to cover football. It's her job to understand the game. I'm completely at a loss that anyone would be surprised that she knows about football.

As for your example, if the woman made a living hunting or fishing or covering either hobby, no I wouldn't be the least bit surprised, nor should anyone.

She has been the beat reporter the Carolina team for over a year. Are you telling me, in over a year, she has never asked any football question? He didn't even know her name. But, by all means, let's protest the equality of the races, but then talk down to a woman.

The irony.....

Couldn't tell you, don't follow Carolina and don't know. Quite possibly no, she hasn't, not in that way using those words, which might be why he was somewhat surprised and tickled by it. But I couldn't tell you one way or the other, and you probably can't either. It's an absolute non-issue in my eyes.

By the way, have you heard some the the dumb questions that come from some of the male sports reporters that supposedly know their sport too, and the reactions they get from some of the coaches/players to those questions? Is that sexist too?:idunno:

I'm sure in the year plus that she's been covering the team she hasn't been allowed to speak or ask questions because football is a man's sport. Or maybe she's just there to smile and look pretty.

He specifically said it was funny to him "because she's a woman". I mean if that's not sexist to you, that's a you problem...

Why, because its a family setting.

Without a woman the family would fail.

I'm sure it wasn't intentional but you're defending yourself against lawildcat's comment that you think women should just cook and clean and you have a woman in an apron serving dinner in your avatar. But hey, it could be worse....It will be interesting to see if some other avatars show up to this discussion that would be even more laughable.

It especially shouldn't shock you Since her job is to write about and talk about football. We also have a lot of female sideline reporters now who talk to players and coaches at halftime or end of game. Asking sometimes very specific football questions too sometimes. You don't really see players and or coaches laugh at them do you? Even in football in terms of sideline reporting, journalism, etc. So yeah it shouldn't be surprising at all that a female who's job is related to football ask a football question.

Yeah those sideline reporters who all are very gorgeous and skinny and on National TV for their looks. Isnt that sexist. Where is the 5'1 200lb reporters

To answer the original question, no, I do not think Cam insulted Jourdan Rodrigue.

He essentially insulted her intelligence and ability to do her job. That would qualify as a insult to me.

I'm not outraged or anything crazy over this, but it was disrespectful IMO.

Dannon Yogurt's has ended their relationship with Cam.

Edit: Conflicting reports...

Ian Rapoport‏Verified account @RapSheet

Spoke with IMG/WME’s Carlos Fleming, who works with Cam on marketing: “Dannon has not terminated the agreement, nor do they have grounds to”

Interesting...TMZ also reported they terminated his contract and even issued a statement from Dannon.

I think he was more taken back by her asking about routes, I mean I wouldnt expect some female to ask that. But I dont get asked stuff all the time either like he does.

Is that woman asking you about hunting working for a hunting publication?

What is she supposed to ask as a football reporter? "Cam, you like throwing them touchdown things?"?

I disagree with you, I do not believe he insulted her intelligence at all.
