It's a pop culture thing. As I stated before coaches typically tune it out or it's said as a joke. There are a number that aren't going to take someone seriously if that is part of a question.

Not anymore. All of the young coaches in the world and almost all of the players grew up playing Madden. Madden is a much bigger part of the real game than most people realize. It is a great tool.

People can use those terms in real life football too.

Announcers called jet sweep an end around for a long time too. Not everyone that does commentary truly knows what they are talking about. You also hear them say stuff like throwing dimes which past using a popular term illustrates no real understanding.

Routes and running routes is much more than just running and changing direction. That would be like saying blocking on the OL is just hitting the guy in front of you and pushing him or running the ball is just hitting the hole. There is more to it.

 

Cam should of never reacted in the way he did or say what he did. Period. The reporter also showed no real knowledge of routes or WR play.

To the question of experience, how many of the beat writers (not game analysts) have ever played the game they cover? By looking at them, I'd say very few. At the nation elite reporter level (Schefter, Olney, Kirkjian, etc.) the vast majority went to journalism school and have no playing experience. That part is meaningless.

So no reporter should be allowed to ask a question if they've never played the sport they're paid to cover? Or does that just apply to women?

I thought that Cam's apology was sincere and I'm glad that he realizes, as the father of 2 girls, the impact that his statement might have on them and other young girls.
