October 3, 200619 yr I still haven't seen any names for RF. I would love to see Tejada also, but I really can't see that happening. I've heard that most scouts think he needs to be moved to 3B anyway. Are there any big Free agent outfielders available?

Last time: I think the Reds as an organization would be mistaken to trade Dunn and would be much better off building a team with dis-similar players around him. However, I hope for HIS sake they do trade him because I think he deserves better than being casual fans' whipping boy. The guy shows up to play everyday, plays hurt, wants to win -- heck, how many other regulars were playing on Sunday in Pittsburgh with the team eliminated? I hope they trade him (again, FOR HIS SAKE) and he goes somewhere else, hits his 500 home runs, and gets to the post-season. I've been rooting on the Reds for 31 years (since going to my first post-season game in 1975), I have frequently disagreed with the Casual fan on Pete, and I don't mind doing it as well on Dunner. This town often falls in love with the over-achieving "hustlers" like Rose, Stynes, Freel, etc. A guy that looks like he isn't hustling (even when that isn't the case) turns off a lot of folks. Yes, for some reason, Griffey continues to get a pass from the guys in their 20's that grew up with Junior being the best player in Baseball and he REALLY doesn't hustle. I'll never get it, but I do understand it.

I'll never get it, but I do understand it. HSSB, I know your stance on Dunn. You didn't need to explain that to me. I'm a big Dunn fan myself, and would only trade him for a #1 stud pitcher. My question was whether you thought the Reds still needed to add a big bat at either RF or one of the middle infield positions if they kept Dunn. I was really impressed with N. Hopper in what little bit of action he saw during the last month of the season. I wouldn't mind seeing him get a shot at the RF spot next year.

There are mulitple factors involving Dunn that could lead you to believe he'll get better, but also multiple factors involved to lead you to believe that he won't. Short answer -- I have no idea.

If you did know the answer to that one I would be on the phone right now telling Mr. Castelinni and Mr. Krivsky to hire you as special assistant to the GM. They would have you go down the list of every ML ballplayer and have you decide which ones to trade, and which ones to trade for. :lol: :lol:

I was just asking your opinion. Three years ago I would have traded anyone but him b/c I thought his ceiling was so high. Now I think he may never improve. I just don't know how you justify paying him $12M a year for the next 5 or so years if he can't drive in runs. If he does stay you need him to drive in more runs and he needs to be the 3 hitter who gets big hits and wins games for you. I don't see that from him anymore. Even before this year I thought he could. Now I think it was just wishful thinking. I hope he stays, something clicks and he starts driving in 125 runs a year.

Name one other 40 hr guy who doesn't have some protection in front of or behind him. There simply aren't any. He really isn't that hard to pitch to especially if there are no consequences in pitching around him. Those of you who have harped on his K's surely have glanced once or twice at his walks. He scores 100+ without the benefit of many folks driving in huge #'s behind him as well. I have more than once been the proponent of trading Dunner for an ace or "budding ace" but if that doesn't occur, we'd be cutting our own throats offensively to let him go. I'll add one more thought, if ownership doesn't increase the payroll somewhat, we will have a very similar lineup. I don't know what it would take, but if I'm not mistaken, attendance was a big issue with them, and as I understand it, attendance went up, so sink a little more to bolster us with a decent free agent arm if one can't be lured by trade and let's make a run with a competitive starting staff.

There simply aren't any.....I made that point, on post #68 of the Adam Dunn thread, relating to his lack of protection and the way other teams pitched him, once he didn't have an offensive pop threat, in front or after.

You know it has to be frustrating for MLB hitters to see low to mid 90's all day long and look silly on a 72 mph yacker... Zito would be a excellent addition to any staff and like you said, would also generate fan interest (his workout routine is impressive also). Package deals with some of the middle relieving corps, plus Ramierz and other starters who have fallen and see if anyone would be interested in Milton, Larue, Clayton and listen to package deals, which included Griffey ( because of trade/money value). Find a true closer, from the AL.
