I'm not saying a non Big 3 game will win the state championship this year, or even make a game of it. Just saying that it is possible a non Big 3 team could make a competitive game of the state championship. That's why we play them.

Good work and good point. Sometimes the blinders can keep the facts hidden. :thumb:

District 8 is the loser if their was a team good enough to play for a state championship. They would first play the Lexington winner in the region then the Louisville winner, and then the state championship.

Actually their road to the championship game is no different then it has been for at least the last 5 years. In fact they may be better off because in most years Lexington teams have eliminated all of them by the second round. With this set up they are at least assured of a team playing for a regional championship.

NKY has to be the winner, sooner or later you'll have to face X or T but later is better than sooner.

:thumb: I'd have to agree.

I think a lot of you are underestimating the teams in WKY against the teams from NKY. Personally, I believe that Warren Central, Christian County (look at their narrow away losses to Bowling Green and Henry Clay), Owensboro, Apollo, Henderson County, and Graves County, as a collection, are much stronger than Boone County, Ryle, Dixie Heights, Simon Kenton, and Conner. Other than the fact that the WKY winner must make the long trip to NKY, to me everything else points to a WKY team in the final game.

Sounds very logical at this point...

NKY has to be the winner, sooner or later you'll have to face X or T but later is better than sooner.

Why?

And, why should St. X, Trinity, and Male all have to beat on each other by round three this year?

It makes little sense to me. Football already has FOUR champions, why not let the best teams stick around until somebody else in their class can beat them?

I got this information from the KHSAA website and I hope I interpreted it correctly.

Region 1

D1 (Western Kentucky) vs. D2 (Owensboro)

Region 2

D3 (Hardin, Meade, Bullitt, Nelson) vs. D6 (Northern Kentucky)

Region 3

D4 (X, Male etc) vs. D5 (Trinity etc.)

Region 4

D7 (Lexington) vs. D8 (Mountain)

Semi State 1

Region 1 @ Region 2

Semi State 2

Region 3 @ Region 4

Other then the most obvious results of matching Louisville districts in the 3rd round who are the biggest winners and who are the biggest losers in this setup? The Louisville survivor will have to travel for their semi-state match-up but this hasn't caused to much hardship for them recently.

I think that the NKY district is helped the most by this. I think they will finally have a 4A team in the championship game. Whoever comes out of region 1 will have a long trip for the semi-state. And I think the NKY teams are overall better then those in D3.

Any thoughts?

FWIW, the NKY district winner could go to the finals this year. But, Boone has already lost to Meade County, and Meade may not be the best team in their district.

Northern KY 4A more than likely trades their annual beating at the hands of Trinity for an annual beating at the hands of North Hardin, John Hardin, etc.

I don't see North or John Hardin's teams this year coming up to NKY and doing what a Trinity could do. To add to the list of close games, I believe it was 1999, Trinity 10, Ryle 7, OT.

You are probably correct. I'm a little more familiar with the NKY side. The bottom line is it doesn't matter. The winning team from the WKY/NKY will get blown-out in the final. I guess making it to the final is better than getting knocked out in the third round, even if it takes a little manipulation to achieve that "goal".

Please note that my post referenced games played this decade (2000-present). Also, note that since then only one of those victories came over a Big 3 team that actually made the final (X/JH last year). If you would take the time to look at all the games involving these two areas versus The Big 3 in the playoffs it would show the dominance, including quite a few more blow-outs than close games. In fact only once since then has the final not been an all Big 3 game, Scott County losing 49-6 to St.X. So my point is pretty valid, NKY and WKY gained the most in the new system. It doesn't matter how the KHSAA manipulates the playoffs the result will more than likely remain the same.
