AAAA Playoff Match-ups 3rd round on

Featured Replies

I don't see North or John Hardin's teams this year coming up to NKY and doing what a Trinity could do. To add to the list of close games, I believe it was 1999, Trinity 10, Ryle 7, OT.

Not many teams can hang on as many points as Trinity, but year in year out I think the best team from the North/John/Meade/Nelson/etc district is better than the top NKY 4A team.

32-26 Rocks in OT. In the first round of the playoffs.

Please note that my post referenced games played this decade (2000-present). Also, note that since then only one of those victories came over a Big 3 team that actually made the final (X/JH last year). If you would take the time to look at all the games involving these two areas versus The Big 3 in the playoffs it would show the dominance, including quite a few more blow-outs than close games. In fact only once since then has the final not been an all Big 3 game, Scott County losing 49-6 to St.X. So my point is pretty valid, NKY and WKY gained the most in the new system. It doesn't matter how the KHSAA manipulates the playoffs the result will more than likely remain the same.

I agree with everything you say. The Big 3 are heads and shoulders above the rest of Ky 4A and the playoffs results bear that out.

My only point is while it would take close to a miracle for any 4A team to beat more than one of the Big 3 in the playoffs to win a title, they will now only have to beat 1. While still unlikely, the odds of a non Big 3 team winning the 4A title did get better. And yes, the new playoff format makes it so.

So we agree that the new format benefits NKY and WKY the most. That was my original point.

Why?

And, why should St. X, Trinity, and Male all have to beat on each other by round three this year?

It makes little sense to me. Football already has FOUR champions, why not let the best teams stick around until somebody else in their class can beat them?

For the same reason that for years Highlands and Cov. Cath would eliminate one another in 3A by round Three. They never cared that they may be the best 2 teams in the state.

I really do not like that the big 3 will have to meet on the third round, unless lighting strikes the state game will be a blow out, with 1 of the big 3 winning.

That being said the 1 team that emerges from the big 3 could get cocky and end up losing, due to the fact not taking the rest of the playoffs serious

^ That's not going to happen.

Every other state has the teams in the same area eliminate one another. Thats why it is called a region. There have been many years that the two best teams in Ohio were from Cincy. However, they has to beat one another to advance to the semis.

^ Keep in mind that Kentucky's largest city (Louisville), is geographically located to where it must be split, to evenly divide the state, nothing more, nothing less. Therefore, a natural split, allows for 2/3 Big III to be split from the other, making the 4A championship one of the most exciting events in the state.

I believe North and John will gladly make the trip to NKY instead of playing the big three out of the ville. Remember NKY will travel west too... ask Male and St X about playing in Hardin Co. the way I see the new playoffs D3 is by far the big winner..................:ylsuper:

Under this class system, no they will not...

I understand your take on the excitement. I would just remind everyone that the unfair argument works both ways when you talk about having to knock teams off. If your from Louisville, you will say that it is unfair that the three best teams have to knock one another off with only one reaching the finals. If you are a public school outside of Louisville, you would claim it is unfair to have to beat at least two, if not all three, of the powerhouses that are within 30 miles of one another. I think the blind draw make it fair. It will go back and forth.

Lincoln Co. is a dark horse in D8.........THE PRIVATES IMO SHOULD FIND ANOTHER VENUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The NCAA Mens Basketball tournament wouldn't be near as exciting if the top 3 teams in the nation were set to play each other in the second and third round would it?
