AAAA Playoff Match-ups 3rd round on

Featured Replies

I got this information from the KHSAA website and I hope I interpreted it correctly.

Region 1

D1 (Western Kentucky) vs. D2 (Owensboro)

Region 2

D3 (Hardin, Meade, Bullitt, Nelson) vs. D6 (Northern Kentucky)

Region 3

D4 (X, Male etc) vs. D5 (Trinity etc.)

Region 4

D7 (Lexington) vs. D8 (Mountain)

Semi State 1

Region 1 @ Region 2

Semi State 2

Region 3 @ Region 4

Other then the most obvious results of matching Louisville districts in the 3rd round who are the biggest winners and who are the biggest losers in this setup? The Louisville survivor will have to travel for their semi-state match-up but this hasn't caused to much hardship for them recently.

I think that the NKY district is helped the most by this. I think they will finally have a 4A team in the championship game. Whoever comes out of region 1 will have a long trip for the semi-state. And I think the NKY teams are overall better then those in D3.

Any thoughts?

Do you mean recently? Boone has been in the championship game before.

Is the matching of Louisville teams in the third round going to be an annual event or did it occur because of the draw?

NKY 4A is a clear winner in this new system. No November trips to St. Matthews to hurdle. I wonder what the state title game will look like though.

It will look really, really ugly for one team.

Not necessarily. There have been close calls in the playoffs for the Big 3 against non Big 3 teams the last few years.

True enough, but I still think having the Big 3 on one side of the bracket is ridiculous.

Northern KY 4A more than likely trades their annual beating at the hands of Trinity for an annual beating at the hands of North Hardin, John Hardin, etc.

Yes, but not very often for the Big 3 team(s) that made it to the Finals. The only example I can think of in the last ten years was St X in 1999.

Really, name a few. You can count them on one hand I would guess. A non-Big3 team has found its way into the final game one time this decade and got blown-out 49-6. Both WKY 4A and NKY 4A teams have had little success against the Big3 in the past in the play-offs so I don't think either or will have much chance in the final. Its cliche' to say, but the state final will be played in the third week of the play-offs in 4A this year.

2004 North Hardin 26 - Male 20

2003 St. X 13 - Warren Central 9

2003 Male 25 - Meade 24

2001 Meade 35 - St. X 20

I'm not saying a non Big 3 game will win the state championship this year, or even make a game of it. Just saying that it is possible a non Big 3 team could make a competitive game of the state championship. That's why we play them.

Anyone know how it was decided as to what regions are paired up?

Blind draw ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Looks like somebody cut a hole in the blindfold.
