2017 Litkenhous Ratings 9-5-2017

Hanging on for dear life...

Just like Cantrall, Litkenhous is so ugly bad this early in the season.

Give it about three more weeks.

Then it will just be bad LOL

Then it will just be bad LOL

Normally magic number, one voter systems are pretty bad.

Archaic system. Litkehnous came out in 1934. It does not calculate some wins/losses to out of state opponents either. The ratings create debate and thus sell papers. Thats my guess to why they havent been replaced. I suppose media will take money over accuracy, but as previously stated, they will get better as the year goes along.

Like we say every year these are not worth the paper they are printed on..

They sure are if you're with the Courier Journal. This thread has over 500 views in the course of 4 hours. Not bad for an newspaper article that was more or less generated by a computer.

I look at all the polls. Some are better than others.

The number of hits on this site alone justifies doing it. Whether people agree or not, they look. That is what they want. We all know that.

Bowling Green is not even in the top 20. It's been awhile since I saw that.

CLASS A

1.Hazard, 109.9

2.KCD, 96.1

3.Russellville, 94.3

4.Beechwood, 93.6

5.Holy Cross, 84.3

6.Ludlow, 83.4

7.Pikeville, 83.3

8.Raceland, 81.6

9.Bracken County, 80.3

10.Paintsville, 79.6

Wow is all I can say!!!

By the way, the Litkenhous ratings are NOT meant to be viewed as point spreads. Simply put, the team with the higher rating is favored to win the game. The Courier-Journal used to offer this "service" nationwide for college football games. It was picked up by most major newspapers "back in the day". This was similar to Sagarin ratings, etc. College football betting was the rage pre-NFL in the 1920s and 1930s. The "mythical" Kentucky state champions were recognized as the top team in Litkenhous by the Courier-Journal up until 1959. The playoff teams in Jefferson County were decided by Litkenhous ratings from 1959 through 1974.

Currently Highlands and Saint Xavier both claim the 1957 State Football Title. Saint Xavier was tied once by an Ohio team. Highlands was undefeated.

This is an absurd rating. Trinity shouldn't have a ranking. Butler at #2 is a head scratcher based on wins over Bullitt East and Western being enough I guess to offset a loss to DeSales. X at 16, PRP not even in the top 20 yet both are undefeated against better opponents?

Why does the CJ continue to publish this outdated ranking system?

Because they paid for it all those years ago. If you have a better system in mind, please contact Jason Frakes at the Courier-Journal.

The CJ is a dinosaur.

As I pointed out to my St X buddies this week, this is absolutely absurd. It shows DeSales as a 12-point favorite over St X when we all KNOW it should be at least 20!
