Thanks

It's what is being proposed for state workers and wasn't sure how good it is since it's being talked about by Frankfort.

I'd put the minimum to your company match. The future tax rate is going to be off the charts so I'm weary about investing a bunch in 401k. I'd almost rather pay the tax now since in theory and based on history the tax rate is destined to go up.

Roth IRA's are good but its a matter of time until those get pinched.

There are some insurance investment products that will cap you at lets say 10% on return but also you can't go below 0 so you can't lose money. When you withdraw its tax free.

Get with @mcpapa and ebay all the printer parts you have, that should pay for one wedding.

I'm selling stuff for a guy as we speak. He gets his initial investment after which we split the rest 50-50 Which is very generous on his part.

Thanks

No Politics!

I max out a Roth IRA & then contribute some more to a 403b, which is very similar to a 401k.

If you're in a position to receive a match on a 401k, do that. I think your age will determine what to do with the rest.

I could see the wedding being held on the turf Up the street from you. Your bro will do the cooking. You can do a wedding for less than $1,000.

Just started another 401k at my new gig about a month ago.

Have had a 401k since my first real job at age 21. Have always invested the max that the company matches. 26 later and I've got a real nice nest egg, with a lot of it from company matches. Even if the market drops, the company match alone gets you way ahead of the game.

That wasnt the intention. Just stating that I have never had one and that is why I was asking because if I have to get one from the state.

Do you work for the state?

@mountainref. You have choices in a 401K as to how conservative you want to be. If worried, take a conservative choice. Just always, take all the match. It is free money.

How old are you @mountainref ? No need to be conservative if you are young.
