Just showed up on my phone as an ESPN update. Apparently for a hit against the Chiefs over a week ago. I'm surprised we haven't seen anything on this hit.

 

This kills the Bengals defense if true.

Felt like mid-season, Burfict issues and AJ tweaked something.

Burfict is appealing. However even though the FB was about to run a dig route across the middle where linebackers do hit and reroute guys with hard hits. Burfict is not going to win this one, because Burfict hit the FB doing the dig route after Smith pumped faked it that way and then threw long.

 

I love Burficts passion and intensity. He is a top 5 linebacker in the NFL when healthy and on the field. However he is not the smartest when it comes to this. He knows people are watching his every move, there is no reason at all to take a chance and do this. 20 years ago he would be loved across the NFL for how physical he is. In today's NFL though can't do that.

 

I see no way his suspension gets reduced. This sucks.

He was fine they said. He always gets dinged up in a game and comes back in. They said he could have came back in. 2014 was the only time injuries truly made him miss games.

Between injuries and suspensions I'm not sure you can count on him for more than 8-10 games a year. Not worth the trouble he comes with.

Absolutely horrible on the NFL side. The hit in question wasn't dirty at all. He out his shoulder into the KC Chief player. The Chief player was running toward Burfict. Absolutely horrible suspension by the NFL who makes it clear they are out to get Burfict no matter what.

And we know you can't count on him in games either because he will do something stupid at some point, get a penalty at the wrong time, cost the team a playoff game ... I have no problem if they move on from him. But we know there is zero chance of that happening.

Agreed with everything except costing them a playoff game. He was one of the biggest reasons they were winning and probably the mvp until the Hill fumble.

 

At the end of the day the team is still better with him than without. Taking a top 5 linebacker off this team doesn't make them better. It's no coincidence the defense really starts going once he plays. He usually has more positive plays that help in a game than he does that hurt. With that said he does them no good at all if he keeps getting suspended.

 

I would keep him but definitely use all this to get him for a cheaper contract extension now.

You basically gave one example of him "costing" them a game. When he plays he does more to help than he does to hurt. Shoot even in that play those 15 yards may not have cost them until Adam Jones decided to give them another 15.

All this extra stuff hurts but unless they get a guy who can be even close as good to what he does, then having him is still better than not. I have said the same but then gave it further thought. I'd rather deal with whatever we have to and take the good that comes with it too. Rather than see him go somewhere else and dominate which is a strong possibility.

Clearly a bone head move. Early in the game the FB caught a pass on the side line and Burfict talked him they was jawing then. About time they let Burfict have it.
