I think DeSales might be a bit overshadowed by the two catholic powerhouses.

 

Coach Harold Davis is working hard at DeSales to bring them to the point they can compete once again with Trinity, and Saint X.

 

The numbers are way up since Coach Davis took over. They added both Saint x and Trinity to the frosh schedule.

 

Many 8th graders are finding opportunities to play for a state championships as a Colt.

 

Some young coveted students are discovering DeSales is the place to be.

 

I often tease Coach, that he needs to go old school, and bring back the horseshoe to the decal on the Helmet.

 

I value the bluegrass prep members to offer their insights to what is happening At DeSales high school.

DeSales has an outstanding 2A program. They'll never be competitive on a regular basis with Trinity or X.

I can see them being competitive with StX but Trinity will be tough. DeSales has beat StX on the JV level and was a last second TD from beating them on the freshman level a few years back. Next year we will find out how close they are to competing with StX when StX comes to play at DeSales.

I'd imagine they'd have to increase enrollment tremendously to consistently compete with X or T. I'm not sure if DeSales has any interest in an increase like that.

Doug Strothman who was named DeSales president 10 years ago. He was definitely not your traditional pick for president, he was never a teacher. However, he has a strong background in the business community in successfully leading people, problem solving and strategic planning, all of which he used very effectively in turning DeSales from a struggling school some wondered if would exist in 10 years to a thriving small school in those 10 years.

Further evidence that the skills of a teacher have zero correlation to administration.

I meant in the south end only. At least for now.

A few random thoughts...

1. St X has been added to the varsity schedule starting next season. There are a LOT of students at DeSales whose fathers went to St X. I know a handful of people who broke a two or three generation St X tradition to go to DeSales.

2. I thought it spoke volumes that St. X approached Coach Davis with a three-year offer at the varsity level and offered DeSales two of the games at home.

3. DeSales has become the place where the Catholic middle school league students can go and get significant playing time in a championship caliber program.

4. DeSales has no interest in growing. They like the enrollment where it is, and the administration realizes that they are perfectly positioned to be the alternative to X and Trinity.

5. Of course they are not going to be on par with those two schools, but the JV Colts did defeat X in 2014 and lost by a field goal in 2015. The freshman team was ahead by two TDs at half against X last year before wave after wave of X linemen wore down the Colts who were playing both ways.

6. DeSales is in a very good place. Two titles, and lost to the eventual state champs the past two years. In my humble opinion, they were the second best team both of those years. But as they say, if you're not the lead dog, the view is always the same. They will be in the mix again this year, and even more so next season.

DeSales Dad is right on target with everything he said. In the last several years DeSales has landed a few young men previously destined for Saint X or Trinity.
