I am in the Total Eclipse Zone!

Featured Replies

Passed by there on the way out, we were less than 2 miles apart.

The lights in the parking lot came on during the darkness phase, and some people's vehicle lights came on.

Unbelievable experience. I got chills looking at the corona. And I also let out a few loud shouts too, as did others in the lot, lol.

It was definitely cool.

Took us about an hour longer to get home than it took to get there. Traffic was heavy but moved well for the most part, police did a pretty good job keeping it moving.

I'm happy that those of you who made the trek to the path of totality had your expectations realized.

For those of us in the 93% category, it was a lot of hoopla about nothing.

As a matter of fact, had it not been publicized, I doubt many would have noticed anything out of the ordinary other than it clouding up, without realizing an eclipse was happening.

There Is a huge difference between partial and totality. I've experienced a couple of partial ones. This was completely different.

One of the news crews from Louisville tweeted about an hour ago that they had been in traffic for almost seven hours and still weren't back to E-town yet.

That would have been me, if not for my Waze app! It diverted us actually up to I-64 in Indiana and back down.

Waze has come through for me several times in bad traffic situations.

I had a buddy that took 15 hours to get home from Hopkinsville (3 1/2 hour trip)

Totality Zone... I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone.... It was 2:30 in the afternoon I was looking at Venus and Jupiter. WOW!!!!

The guy next to us had a telescope. About five minutes prior to totality we noticed a very bright object to the left. I knew that it was out of place. Turns out it was a weather balloon! You could see tons of detail with the telescope.

Heard horror stories on traffic coming out of Western Kentucky. Evidently E-Town was a bottle neck of massive proportions.

This is one time when I'm glad I went with TN over KY. It was the perfect vantage spot!!!! The only bad thing.... I lost my phone somewhere in the "field of dreams" I played in yesterday. The good news... it was a $15 flip phone. Got a new one today. They've gone up. This one's a $25 gem !!!

It looks like when the next one comes, I can go from my folks' place in Warsaw and head across the Markland Bridge and be where I would need to be in about 20-25 miles once I go up the hill. Might go that route, or head to Indy and stay with relatives. I've seen 4 partials, but no totals.

Yep. Heard multiple stories of 8+ hour journeys home after the festivities yesterday.

My 3.5 hour drive home took 7.5 hours. Western Kentucky Parkway became Western Kentucky Parking LOT. Luckily, Waze diverted us into Indiana. One of my students went to Hopkinsville and got back home to the Louisville area at 3 am.

But make no mistake...I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

Much shorter drive for you in 7 years!
