The sad facts for Highlands fans are 2015 8-6, 2016 3-8. That makes this senior class 11-14, a losing record, entering their senior season. There's some more bulletin board material, but facts are facts.

 

Where Highlands will get the benefit of their program history is if they go out and put up a couple impressive wins early, they will shoot up the rankings much faster than most schools would. If they want to get into the top 10, they need to win their first two games.

 

Good points and I agree VoR, if the Birds start winning they will rocket up the rankings.

The 2018 college offers thread is littered with players from Doss. It appears they have as much talent as anyone in this class, despite going 6-6 last year.

Doss is extremely talented. I went to their playoff game last season vs Highlands as I've heard all about them. I also saw them in CHardins recent 7on7 and they are the real deal. Athletes all over. Their ultra-talented D1 receiver Traynor going down with injury is a blow. They will be challenged by a solid Fern Creek squad in their district. But this team can go all the way IMO. Very well coached and the players seem bought in.

I would like to see it happen.

 

And on Highlands everyone, if I am reading the tea leaves right we have Highlands ranked #18 in 5A to start the season.

 

With that said, I expect the Birds to move up but they are going to have to earn it.

Given how tough their schedule is you could be right. Certainly are testing themselves again this year.

In response....the kids replacing some of the starters from last year are better, much better at their positions. Especially on the defensive side of the ball.

 

More kids will go both ways this year especially exceptional athletes like Griffin Huber, Michael Dunn, Cooper Schwalbach, etc

 

In response to the schedule...it is grueling but I still see some wins in there and it really only matters when it comes time to play your class.

Ram, I am not close to the Bluebird program. I have a daughter who is employed there but she's so busy with her stuff I couldn't possibly ask her to send me reports on the football program. I will tell you that according to what feedback she hears, last year was an eye opening wake-up call. My previous post was just an educated guess, or more of an opinion. A premier program such as Highlands has never really endured a year like last year. My gut feeling is that they will not repeat the same type year and will be much better.

Is this the year that the “Great Purple Reign of Terror” comes to an end? The opportunity to make a statement will come early for Christian County and Covington Catholic against ranked foes from other classes. Bowling Green has their own fish to fry in 6A North Hardin. South Oldham may take issue with their ranking outside of the Top 5, despite a Semi-Finals appearance. However, if the Dragons want to earn immediate respect, a Week 0 meeting with the Class 2A State Champs will certainly be a nice feather for their cap. All told, half of the Top 10 will draw teams from the State’s largest classification.

Doesn't really matter where the Dragons are ranked pre-season -- South Oldham will always be fighting for any respect -- LOL. They have defeated Doss the last two seasons. Went 4-0 at the OC 7-7 and made the finals at the Central Hardin 7-7 with a very young team still learning to play together. The first two weeks of the season playing CAL and Doss will give us all an indication of the kind of season South could have. I too want to see how the line comes together as the skill positions look solid. A 3-year starter at QB with D-1 interest, FB had 1500+ yards and solid starters returning at WB and WR. Defense returns 6 starters. Lets see what happens tomorrow when they scrimmage Butler as a first indicator.

I look for an improved season for the 'Birds but will find out a whole lot in the next three weeks starting with Cincy St. X on Friday night. Gentlemen the season is about to begin!

Let me quit drinking my Purple Kool-Aid for a moment and brag on a 5A team that deserves some press.

The most underrated player in the state of Kentucky, Mr. Jackson Adams. This kid is a phenomenal high school quarterback. Quit reading the news clippings on other quarterbacks across Kentucky. Jackson's numbers speak for themselves. He didn't only break the all-time records at Greenwood, he shattered them. His rushing yardage at the end of his career will be staggering and his legacy will live for many years through the halls of the school in which he attends. The Gators will take care of business on most of their Friday nights. Under their quarterbacks leadership, the Gators finally get to be on the other end of some running clocks, including a clock on the Bluebirds from Northern Kentucky. Now, as I pick up my Purple Kool-aide; the Purples, although as green as they have been in several years, should still run the table on all of their 5A opponents this year.
